Chrysalis is seeking an energetic, flexible, kind, and self-starting individual to prepare and deliver physical education instruction under the direction of the classroom teachers, and to offer recreational activities and supervision on the playground during recess and lunch. An additional stipend is negotiable for coaching after school sports. This position has varying responsibilities that include, but are not limited to: * Being reliable and available Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 2:30 pm. (For those that work an afternoon job, a 1:00 or 2:05 pm end time may be negotiated on certain days of the week.) * Being comfortable with independently providing physical education lessons based upon sound physical fitness practices (SPARK curriculum and training provided http://www.sparkpe.org/, or you may develop your own with teacher supervision and guidance). * Cultivating students’ understanding of good sportsmanship and respectful play in sports, games, exercises and other physical activities. * Being able to build relationships and work effectively with a wide range of children in grades K-8 * Managing student behavior for a group of up to 25 students. * Resolving conflicts between students through Restorative Practices and Love and Logic. * Communicating effectively with classroom teachers and other staff about student progress and behavior. * Communicating effectively with coaches at Redding Christian School, with whom we share access to the gym and athletic fields. * Offering engaging recreational options and supervising students during recess and lunch. * Maintaining the outdoor environment and PE equipment in a safe, orderly and clean manner. * Ensuring the safety and security of children. * Remaining flexible to change classes or assignments with very little notice. * Taking the initiative to anticipate what needs to happen and make it happen. The children of staff are given priority in the enrollment lottery, and we encourage employees with children that attend Chrysalis to actively participate in school activities and in their child’s classroom. The minimum requirements are a being ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) compliant (either an AA Degree or higher, 48 semester units or more or have taken and passed the Paraprofessional Exam) and having prior experience working with children. Vision sufficient to read fine print; hearing and speech sufficient to enable communication by telephone and in person; stamina sufficient to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time; regularly lift, carry, and/or move instructional material and athletic equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; reach with arms and hands; stoop, kneel, or crouch to work with children; ability to work outdoors for the majority of the day most days. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions, though you must pass a TB test, background check, and physical assessment exam and remain current with pediatric first aid and CPR certification.
