Did you become a teacher because you believe that education is the greatest vehicle for social change? Are you an educator that wants to teach what you’re passionate about? Do you imagine waking up every morning excited to come to work? If so, read on and decide if SOUL needs YOU. The School Of Universal Learning, SOUL Charter School, is a revolutionary charter school that will open in the fall of 2017. We are the first charter school approved at the San Diego County Office of Education in 15 years and we will be the first charter school in the San Dieguito district. We are now working to build the incredible staff who will pioneer this revolutionary model of education. Our doors will open in the fall of 2017 to students in grades 7 and 9. Together, we will work to fulfill our mission of providing an exceptional education that awakens individuals to know who they are, discover their passion and purpose, and thrive holistically, to achieve both mental and life mastery. Our academic program is based around Universal Learning which is a combination of project based, experiential based, and holistic education. We are now looking for other like minded individuals to help bring SOUL to fruition. SOUL is currently hiring History and Science teachers. There are three phases of our hiring process that we are utilizing to find the perfect teachers and staff for SOUL. First, all candidates interested in joining the SOUL community are asked to submit a resume and cover letter along with SOUL’s application. The SOUL application is as follows: Answer 1 question from each category listed below. For each of these questions, you can respond using any medium of your choosing (examples include): Video: Please keep your submission to 2 minutes or less per question Essay/the written word: Please keep your submission to 1 page or less per question Artistic Creation Other All attachments provided will be applied to your application for review. Have fun! SOUL Application Questions: Self: If happiness was measured in currency, what would make you rich? What’s the best mistake you ever made? Which failure are you most proud of? How would you complete the sentence: I am______________ (Please explain) What’s your story? Explain the most profound experience you’ve had in your life. Teaching: What’s the most important thing for adolescents to learn? How should this be taught? Describe the perfect job setting. How does that get created? If you could go back and meet your teenage self, what would you tell him/her? What does a revolutionary school model look like to you? World: If you were tasked with solving one of the world’s greatest problems, with a team of your choosing, what would you solve and with whom? Which universal laws do you abide by and why? If you could lead (or have led) a movement (past/present/future), what would that movement be and why? Next, after reviewing applications, we will invite potential candidates to a round table interview with our hiring committee. Lastly, teachers will be asked to facilitate a 50 minute lesson.
