Under supervision of the Director of Maintenance and Transportation, keep assigned rooms, buildings, office space and school grounds clean and orderly. operates a school bus vehicle safely and competently over assigned routes and on school activity trips; performs a comprehensive inspection of each vehicle driven daily; completes required paperwork neatly and in accordance with time schedules set forth by law and district policies and procedures; shall exercise authority and be directly responsible for the orderly conduct of pupils while they are on the bus or being escorted across a street, highway or road. Performs cleaning activities of interior and exterior surfaces of bus.

SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

SUPERVISOR:
MOT Director / Bus Driver Lead

WORK DAYS:
180 days / 11 months / 4 hours per day

DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, operates a school bus vehicle safely and competently over assigned routes and on school activity trips; performs a comprehensive inspection of each vehicle driven daily; completes required paperwork neatly and in accordance with time schedules set forth by law and district policies and procedures; shall exercise authority and be directly responsible for the orderly conduct of pupils while they are on the bus or being escorted across a street, highway or road.  Performs cleaning activities of interior and exterior surfaces of bus.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS 

EDUCATIONAL/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma
  • Current California School Bus Drivers Certificate
  • Current California Commercial Drivers License of appropriate class
  • Current DL51 (Medical Examiners Certificate)
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (preferred)

  • Neat and tidy appearance
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects not to exceed 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, reach and bend.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time subject to some jarring/bouncing/vibration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drives bus daily or as assigned over designated routes in accordance  with time schedules.
  • Installs tire chains as necessary.
  • Maintains buses in a clean and safe condition.
  • Fuels buses.
  • Instructs students in various aspects of passenger and pedestrian safety and maintains good order among students.
  • Completes daily bus check out procedure and required paper work and informs supervisor of mechanical problems with bus or equipment.
  • Bring to the attention of his/her supervisor any special problems that arise with individuals or groups of students.
  • Follow the school wide discipline plan using good judgment in handling behavioral problems and refer as necessary.
  • Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all applicable laws, rules and regulations of the state, county, and the Sonora School District.
  • Administer first aid to students in accordance with district policy.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Attends meetings and training as required by district.
  • Submit to drug and alcohol testing per Federal law and district policy.
  • Performs any other position-related assignments as assigned.

DURING EMERGENCY SITUATIONS – ALL POSITIONS MAY BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM DUTIES OTHERWISE NOT ASSIGNED.
