Job Description for

 

BUS DRIVER

 

 

SUPERVISOR:         Transportation Supervisor

 

DEFINITION:

 

Under general supervision, operates a school bus vehicle safely and competently over assigned routes and on school activity trips; performs a comprehensive inspection of each vehicle driven daily; completes required paperwork neatly and in accordance with time schedules set forth by law and district policies and procedures; shall exercise authority and be directly responsible for the orderly conduct of pupils while they are on the bus or being escorted across a street, highway or road.  Performs cleaning activities of interior and exterior surfaces of bus.

 

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

 

            EDUCATIONAL/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Current California School Bus Drivers Certificate
  3. Current 1st Aid Certificate if required
  4. Current California Commercial Drivers License of appropriate class
  5. Current DL51 (Medical Examiners Certificate)
  6. CPR preferred but not required

 

PHYSICAL TRAITS

  1. Good speech
  2. Good general health
  3. Neat and tidy appearance
  4. Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects not to exceed 50 pounds.
  5. Ability to stand, stoop, reach and bend.
  6. Ability to sit for extended periods of time subject to some jarring/bouncing/vibration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Drives bus daily or as assigned over designated routes in accordance  with time schedules.

 

  1. Installs tire chains as necessary.

 

  1. Maintains buses in a clean and safe condition.

 

  1. Fuels buses.

 

  1. Instructs students in various aspects of passenger and pedestrian safety and maintains good order among students.

 

  1. Completes daily bus check out procedure and required paper work and informs supervisor of mechanical problems with bus or equipment.

 

  1. Bring to the attention of his/her supervisor any special problems that arise with individuals or groups of students.

 

  1. Follow the school wide discipline plan using good judgment in handling behavioral problems and refer as necessary.

 

  1. Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all applicable laws, rules and regulations of the state, county, and the Sonora School District.

 

  1. Administer first aid to students in accordance with district policy.

 

  1. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.

 

  1. Attends meetings and training as required by district.

 

  1. Submit to drug and alcohol testing per Federal law and district policy.

 

  1. Performs any other position-related assignments as assigned.

 

 

DURING EMERGENCY SITUATIONS – ALL POSITIONS MAY BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM DUTIES OTHERWISE NOT ASSIGNED.
