Job Title:  After-School Program Coordinator

 

Job Purpose:

The After-school Program Coordinator plans for and executes a successful after-school program at the schools within The Academies CMO.  He/she recruits participants, keeps records of attendance and billing, and communicates with families.  The After-school Program Coordinator maintains an appropriate learning environment and provides age-appropriate activities, and contributes his/her talents to create an excellent program and positive experience in the after-school hours for the Charter School students. The After-School Program operates separately from the regular school day and educational program at The Academies CMO.  The Program serves only those Charter School students whose families opt to participate, and participation is not required or necessary in order for a student to be successful in The Academies CMO’s regular education program.

 

Team Relationship:

The After-school Program Coordinator is directly responsible to the Operations Director.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plans for a fun, effective after-school program, which may include daily and long range planning with other staff members of The Academies CMO.
  • Ensures accurate reporting of student participation/attendance.
  • Manages registration, billing, and payments including collection of past due fees.
  • Prepares instructional materials for the after-school program.
  • Monitors the safety and security of students.
  • Supervises students in classrooms, playgrounds, cafeteria, hallways, and study halls.
  • Communicates effectively with Teacher(s) and/or the Principals regarding observed student behavior/progress/needs.
  • Assists students in completing homework in a manner consistent with the Charter School and educational philosophy of The Academies CMO.
  • Ensures materials are well-managed and school property is maintained in an orderly fashion.
  • Serves on committees and task forces to support the school’s success as invited.
  • Contributes to extra-curricular activities such as sports, clubs, etc.
  • Helps the Charter School staff maintain a respectful, safe, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Participates in professional development workshops and training as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Job Qualifications:

Education/Certifications

  • High school graduate. (required)
  • 12 units or more of college level coursework completed. (required)
  • Basic first aid certificate. (required before start date)
  • Spanish language fluency. (desired)

Experience

  • Two or more years experience working with children and adults in a school setting. (desired)
  • Past participation in school events. (desired)

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required

  • A love for students and learning.
  • A commitment to the mission of The Academies CMO.
  • Working knowledge of school operations and procedures.
  • Appropriate use of standard English language, in writing and in speech.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions enumerated above.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented personality.
  • A positive role model for students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, teachers, co-workers, and the public.
  • Ability to word-process and use suitable computer software applications.
  • Ability to operate a copier, laminator, and similar school machines.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry-out verbal and/or written instructions from the teachers and the principal.
  • An enthusiastic willingness to support the educational philosophy of The Academies CMO.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to be trained in instructional methodology and procedural compliance.
  • A proactive and effective approach to student discipline aligned with the school’s discipline policies.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Integrity in all his/her dealings with the school community; is respectful, thoughtful, honest, and fair.
  • Ability to follow established procedures in an emergency situation.

 

The Academies CMO Board will consider candidates for an After-School Program Coordinator position based upon a combination of education/certifications, experience, skills, knowledge and/or abilities, and mission fit.
