The Mendocino County Office of Education is a public agency whose primary purpose is to provide educational leadership, resources and services to schools to ensure wide-ranging educational opportunities for all students. This mission is accomplished through cooperative efforts with teachers, school districts, families, and communities; through direct instructional programs and administrative services; and through coordination with the California Department of Education and other agencies.

Under the general supervision of the County Superintendent, direct, plan, organize, coordinate, develop, and oversee the activities of the Human Resources Department; plan, organize, control, and direct the human resources activities for the recruitment, screening, selection, processing, classification, and compensation of County Office certificated and classified employees; coordinate and participate in labor relations, credential functions, communications, and information to meet human resources services and needs; ensure smooth and efficient operations; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; and perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • A bachelor’s degree in human resources, Organizational Leadership, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited university is required. However, experience in human resources beyond the five (5) years required may be substituted for the required college education on a year-for-year basis when coupled with an Associate’s degree or equivalent coursework or certification; a master’s degree is preferred; • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible human resources experience is required. Experience in public education is preferred; • A professional human resources designation is desired, such as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR); Professional in Human Resources (PHR); Certified Compensation Professional (CCP); Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) is preferred; • Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver License; • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred; • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effecti vely, including lifting twenty-five (25) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds with assistance. Participation in this plan is mandatory for employees working 35 plus hours a week. Employee will be a member of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) to which both the employee and MCOE contribute. Employee may elect to be a member of the Mendocino County Federation of School Employees Union. MCOE does not participate in the Social Security system.
