Applications are being accepted on a continuous basis for PERMANENT and SUBSTITUTE assignments. <p>Current vacancies include:</p> <ul> <li>ID 2448: SOUL Academy - San Diego, 92114</li> <li>ID 2478: SOAR at Youth Transition Campus (YTC) - San Diego, 92123</li> </p> </ul><p>The Classroom Assistants aid in providing instructional support to individual or small groups of students in assigned subject-matter areas to reinforce classroom lessons in the classroom of a juvenile court or community school; assist a classroom teacher in the supervision of individual or groups of students and perform a variety of related duties in the maintenance of an effective learning environment.</p> <p>This position is part-time and permanent positions offer the classified benefits package, which includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage, and will participate in the CalPERS state retirement system. </p>

Requirements / Qualifications

SDCOE is building our permanent pool for part-time and full-time vacancies. This position is grade 36 on the Classified Support Salary Schedule ($21.48 - $27.41/hr) This recruitment will be used to establish a six-month eligibility list to fill any vacancies in this classification. Permanent positions of 20 hours per week or more are eligible for health benefits. SDCOE is also building our substitute/limited-term pool for Classroom Assistant - Alternative Education with individuals who prefer to work on an on-call, as-needed or limited-term basis. Substitute assignments are paid on Step 01 of the Classified Support Salary Schedule ($21.48/hr) and are not eligible for health benefits. Substitutes will need to successfully pass an examination and will be placed on the eligibility list.

This position requires possession of a high school diploma (or equivalent) and at least one year of experience (paid or volunteer) working with youth in an organized setting, ideally with at-risk youth.

Candidates must also demonstrate Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA, previously referred to as the NCLB Act) compliance. In order to satisfy the paraprofessional requirements of the ESSA, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; AND,
  • Completed at least 48-semester units at an accredited college or university; OR,
  • Obtained an associates (or higher) degree; OR,
  • Successful completion of an assessment, administered by the San Diego County Office of Education, in basic reading, writing, mathematics skills, and the ability to assist with instruction.
