Job Summary

Job Summary

Serves as educational leader and general administrator of a school. Has administrative responsibility for the direction to, and holds responsible and accountable for the effective performance of their assignments, the certificated and non-certificated personnel serving in the school on a permanent, part-time, and/or temporary basis. Through line organization procedures and management organization channels, participates in recommending district policies and regulations to the superintendent.

Requirements / Qualifications

Credential: Possession of a standard administration credential or a credential of equivalent authorization issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is required. AND Education: A bachelor's degree from an approved institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred. AND Experience: A minimum of five years of certificated experience in public or private schools is required, and preference will be given for additional middle school teaching experience, administrative, or supervisorial experience at the middle school.

The School of Engineering and Sciences (SES) is one of Sacramento City Unified School District’s small, career-themed schools designed through the assistance of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. As an industry-themed school, SES has adopted a school structure and instructional techniques that allow students to learn about and experience careers in the fields of engineering and science. All students engage in integrated unit projects designed to solve a real world problem using information and skills from their core courses, including engineering. Students focus on unique coursework and mentorships aligned to their personal goals. Students have numerous opportunities to interact with professionals in a variety of scientific fields of study through career explorations and regional study tours. Regional science competitions are a part of the comprehensive activities program. The Principal of School of Engineering and Sciences should be able to: • Establish a school-wide focus on research-based instructional strategies and MTSS • Promote parent and community engagement centered on academic growth • Foster a nurturing and safe school climate that is rich with Social-Emotional Learning • Continue to build upon the Linked Learning approach of the school • Establish community and industry partnerships • Apply their knowledge of Career and Technical Education (CTE) • Offer staff strong professional learning opportunities related to high quality instruction A strong background in distributed leadership, collaborative teaching and planning, and student interventions is preferred.
