Our Organization - Serving East San Jose through Education The Foundation for Hispanic Education (TFHE) was established in 1981 as a product of the late Dr. B. Roberto Cruz’s vision of providing quality education and support for all underserved learners, with a focus on Latino students. With 106 committed staff members, TFHE now serves over 1,050 students from the community neighborhoods of Mayfair, Mt. Pleasant, Sylvandale, Santee, and Alum Rock in East San Jose. TFHE operates three charter high schools.

Job Summary: We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced After School Tutor to facilitate one-on-one or small group lessons for high school students. The After School Tutor will be responsible for providing academic support, improving academic performance, and enhancing learning experiences for the students. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, knowledge of academic best practices, and a passion for teaching.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Review classroom or curricula topics and assignments -Assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks -Work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom -Teach skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills, executive functioning skills, and approaches to answering test questions -Demonstrate academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics -Develop and distribute learning materials to support academic growth -Conduct practice activities to track progress, identify areas of improvement, and help set goals for exam preparation -Collaborate with staff to support academic and social and emotional learning needs of students -Provide positive and constructive feedback to students -Offer feedback on progress to students’ parents/guardians and staff where appropriate -Build meaningful connections with students from diverse backgrounds -Instruct students in person -Support student needs through active listening techniques and questioning strategies -Recognize different learning styles and student preferences -Design differentiated learning goals -Stay current with school curriculum -Address learning needs from an asset-based mindset

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS -Bachelor's degree, preferred -Experience in teaching or tutoring -Knowledge of academic best practices and learning strategies -Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written -Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds -Strong organizational and time-management skills -Passion for teaching and helping students achieve their goals -Fingerprint and TB test required We look forward to hearing from qualified candidates who are available to provide tutoring services at our location in San Jose, CA.
