Colfax Elementary School District is located just 5 minutes off Interstate 80 along the Bear River in the Sierra Nevada foothills just below the Tahoe National Forest. Our one-school campus serves students in grades TK-8 with about two classes per grade level. Job Summary

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Principal, the School Secretary performs duties in connection with the effective operation of the school and district office. The School Secretary performs complex secretarial and clerical duties. This is an 11 month classified position. TYPICAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The School Secretary relieves the Principal of clerical details, compses correspondence on matters not requiring personal response of the Principal and handles routine matters in the Principal's absence. The School Secretary receives and answers inquiries, gathers data and information for administration, screens phone calls to the district and school office, and performs varying tasks as related to school facilities and special assignments as directed by the Principal. -Enrolls TK-8 grade students and sets up temporary files on new students. -Requests student records from previous schools and notifies staff when records are received. -Maintains cumulative records on all students. -Places advertisements and works closely with the Principal on enrollment numbers for upcoming years. -Maintains immunization records and notifies parents of needed updates. -Works closely with the school nurse preparing documentation to be filed with the State. -General bookkeeping for 30+ accounts with the Student Body fund including deposits and disbursements. -Assists teachers, advisors, and students with procedures and forms for fundraising. -Collects articles, edits, and updates the school website, and sends communication to the staff and public. -Answers phones, assists callers and transmits messages. -Assists staff with voice mail set up. -Assists students and the community at the front counter and provides direction and communication to other staff as needed. -Provides first aid to students; monitors medication, and contacts parents for ill or injured students. -Provides assistance to staff and parent volunteers in operation of office machines and workroom equ

PLEASE PROVIDE: Letter of Intent Resume 3 Current Letters of Recommendation QUALIFICATIONS: -Ability and skills to understand and work in a confidential office. -Strong skills in dealing diplomatically and effectively with a wide variety of people. -Ability to work independently and efficiently with little supervision. -Knowledge of current office practices and procedures; working knowledge of computer and word processing software and general office equipment. -Basic accounting and ability to coordinate multiple tasks. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: -High School diploma required -Higher education coursework desired -Minimum two years increasingly responsible administrative staff experience, preferably in the field of education. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: -Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, or walking. -Work assignments are normally located in a a work environment with light physical work and require light physical effort. -Lifting 25 lbs. maximum or carrying any object weighing 15 lbs. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: -Valid California driver’s license -TB Clearance -Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
