STATISTICAL DATA TECHNICIAN

Pay Level 36 on Confidential Salary Schedule

 DEFINITION

Under direct supervision of the Business Manager, to perform specialized technical accounting and budgetary functions, and student data information in maintaining financial and statistical records, utilizing manual and computer-assisted process; and to do other related work as required.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  Personnel in this classification may perform any combination of the essential duties shown below.  This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the principle job elements.

 Create and provide school sites with a school month calendar for attendance; correspond with staff regarding new or modified attendance rules and regulations, District procedures or related information; audit reports submitted by sites to assure accuracy; prepare and deliver an annual workshop and handbook.

  • Prepare attendance records and input to computer terminal; prepare and maintain records and reports for student attendance, class size, program costs, budget and expenditures, transportation and related reports and verifies computations; submit to local, state or federal offices as required
  • Establish procedures for obtaining financial information; audit school procedures and records of student enrollment and attendance. Provide in-service training for school and office personnel as appropriate.
  • Prepare a variety of local, state and federal required financial and statistical reports, including reports on average daily attendance, special education classes, pupil transportation, etc. Prepare and deliver within strict time lines.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of documents and processed data.
  • Carries out technical and complex financial and statistical research and analysis functions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information and records.
  • Examine documents, records, forms, and computer printouts for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to applicable rules and regulations.
  • Establishes, posts, and maintains journals, ledgers, and a variety of other accounting records.
  • Prepares and verifies the accuracy and completeness of financial files, records, and reports.
  • Works with a computer-based accounting, budgetary functions, and payroll system.
  • May interpret and provide information regarding routine legal mandates, policies, regulations, and operational guidelines to district personnel.

 QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Methods, practices, and procedures of financial record keeping and clerical work;

Financial statement and general accounting control procedures;

Operation of manual and computer-assisted functions, including accounting budget, payroll and student record management and attendance reporting systems;

Organization and planning methods, trends, techniques, and practices.

 Ability to:

Perform complex and technical accounting and budget functions, payroll clerical functions, statistical record analysis and reporting;

Prepare, review, and analyze accounting and budget functions, payroll files, student and business records, summaries and reports;

Interpret and effectively communicate accounting and budget function policies, as well as student recordkeeping policies;

Make complex mathematical calculations and verify results;

Effectively and efficiently operate computers and other office machines and equipment;

Understand and carry out oral and written directions;

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • This type of work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.

 EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:

 

Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training or coursework in elementary accounting, bookkeeping, statistical analysis and research, business office practices, organization and planning, or closely related fields.

 Experience:

Three years of highly responsible experience in accounting and budgetary functions, payroll, or statistical record management and reporting.

 License Requirement

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver’s License and adequate insurance coverage on your vehicle.

 Condition of Employment

Insurability by the District’s liability insurance carrier.  Employment is contingent upon fingerprint and background clearance, and proof of a recent negative tuberculosis test result.
