SAUGUS UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM TEACHER Primary Function: Primarily responsible for the academic, social and psychological growth of students in the classroom and other related duties. Directly responsible to: Building Principal Major Duties and Responsibilities: ·Diagnose, assess instruct, guide and counsel students. ·Refer students for placement in special programs. ·Utilize, where necessary, the services of the special education personnel. ·Maintain professional standards and skills to provide a good classroom and school climate and attempt to meet the individual needs of the students. ·Cooperate in establishing, supervising and maintaining school standards and safety practices. ·Responsible for improving own professional skills, keeping informed through professional organizations and other means, creating and presenting a good image, working toward upgrading educational standards and being a supportive staff member, including participation in professional and educationally related activities. Credential Required: Valid California Teaching Credential with elementary authorizations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ·Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents and instructions ·Able to conduct verbal conversation in English, and other designated language ·Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels) ·Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk ·Able to sit for sustained periods of time ·Able to kneel or squat for extended periods of time ·Able to climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps and ladders ·Able to lift up to 25 pounds ·Able to carry up to 25 pounds ·Able to sustain strenuous manual labor for 3.75 hrs. ·Able to exhibit full range of motion for: ·shoulder external rotation and internal rotation ·shoulder abduction and adduction ·elbow flexion and extension ·shoulder extension and flexion ·back lateral flexion ·hip flexion and extension ·knee flexion ·Able to demonstrate manual dexterity needed to operate a computer and other classroom equipment in a safe and efficient manner ·Able to work with cleaning solutions, disinfectants and sanitizers in a safe and effective manner without allergic reaction While the ideal candidate will possess all these abilities, duties assigned can be modified to accommodate some physical restrictions.

Applicants who are eligible for a 30 Day Substitute Permit are encouraged to apply (Bachelor's Degree and proof of the CA Basic Skills Requirement are required).

CA Basic Skills Requirement: Passage of CBEST, CSET, SAT, ACT or college coursework. Individuals may meet the requirement by providing official transcripts that show passage of courses in reading, writing, and mathematics as outlined below. Courses must have been taken at a regionally-accredited college or university for credit, passed with a grade of B or better, be degree applicable, and be at least 3 semester units (or equivalent quarter units). Qualifying coursework does not include professional development or continuing education units or in-service training or workshops. Qualifying coursework includes the following: For reading proficiency: a course in critical thinking, literature, philosophy, reading, rhetoric, or textual analysis. For writing proficiency: a course in composition, English, rhetoric, written communication, or writing. For mathematics proficiency: a course in algebra, geometry, mathematics, quantitative reasoning, or statistics.
