RESPONSIBILITIES: The Speech/Language Pathology Assistant, under the supervision of the Coordinator, Special Education, and under the general direction of the Speech/Language Pathologist performs services at the school site to provide activities designed to develop pre-language and language skills, articulation skills, fluency, oral-motor control for speech production, voice production, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The Speech/Language Pathology Assistant may work with students who have severe speech and language disorders as well as physical, cognitive and/or emotional disabilities. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling grammar, and punctuation; effective record keeping practices and procedures; phonetics; human anatomy and physiology; normal speech, language, and hearing development; language disorders and rehabilitation; articulation disorders and rehabilitation; acquired disorders and rehabilitation; clinical methods and procedures; hearing disorders and aural rehabilitation; health regulations and safe working methods and procedures; proper lifting techniques; and District policies, rules and regulations. High school graduate or equivalent; completion of an accredited Speech Language Pathology Assistant program that is recognized by the State licensing board; must be registered as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant with the State of California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board; have a valid California driver’s license; and first aid/CPR certification is desireable.
