Job Summary: Under general supervision of the site principal or department director, within a broad framework of standard policies and procedures, coordinate categorical and other support programs at the school site, responsible for placement and direction of program support staff; assists with budget development and accountability of expenditures; prepare reports and plans appropriate to each program. This position requires initiative and judgment, problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate and monitor the work of others. This position is generally site based but may be held in a district office department. Examples of Duties Coordinates categorical programs such as SIP, EIA and Title I; directs projects developed by the planning team, advisory and/or site council; assists with decisions regarding the master schedule and staffing related to categorical programs; serves as an advocate for students qualifying for special services, determining their placement in support programs, monitoring their progress in those programs and directing the reclassification process including testing as needed; establishes and monitors record-keeping and a system for tracking progress of Title I and LEP students; compiles requested data into reports required of categorical programs such as the R-30; makes home visits and home contacts as needed; oversees the support programs for Title I students; directs the work of instructional technicians, coordinating schedules, recommending and supporting training, managing paperwork, coverage when absent, time sheets, etc.; confers with teachers and parents regarding the effectiveness of support programs; disseminates and interprets Federal and State guidelines as applicable to support programs; assists in the development and monitoring of the school plan including overseeing its progress, serving on committees or task forces, revising and evaluating, working closely with the principal in budget and staffing considerations, to include writing the final evaluation of the year in relation to plan expectations; supports school public relations programs, assisting with publications and presentations; provides support to staff applying for grants; works to implement fund-raising efforts; coordinates parent advisories and parent education programs as required by categorical programs and the school plan; participates in available training in order to meet new technology standards; performs other related duties as required. Employment Standards Training and Experience: Any combination of experience and training which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed herein. Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent, three years of experience in a clerical or paraprofessional capacity, preferably in an educational setting, at least two years of college coursework and a commitment to excellence in education for all. Computer skills required, strong organizational skills and personal management skills are essential. Knowledge: Knowledge of school systems and programs, including budgeting systems, purchasing processes, grant-writing formats and other project development processes; business letter writing; business English; correct grammatical usage, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary; computers and computer applications and software; knowledge of categorical complexities; understanding of relationships between sites and districts, and between districts and state. Abilities: Ability to work within a changing environment with unpredictable resources; learn policies and program requirements and apply them with good judgment in a variety of procedural situations; comply with district and site practices; work with a wide range of personalities, tolerating differences and building on strengths; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; type or keyboard at a rate of 55 wpm. Physical Effort/Work Environment: Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines; ability to conduct verbal conversation in English and, possibly, a designated second language; hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels); sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk; sit for sustained periods of time; climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps and ladders; lift up to 20 pounds; carry up to 20 pounds; exhibit full range of motion for should external rotation and internal rotation, shoulder abduction and adduction, elbow flexion and extension, shoulder extension and flexion, back lateral flexion, hip flexion and extension and knee flexion; operate office machines and equipment in a safe and effective manner; demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate calculator, typewriter and/or computer keyboard at the required speed and accuracy; conduct frequent repetitive arm, hand and body motion; work in an indoor environment. Licenses and Certificates: A valid Class C California Driver's License with evidence of appropriate insurance may be required in addition to a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate.
