ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

 

The School Principal is responsible to the Superintendent.

 

In general, the duties and responsibilities of the School Principals are to:

 

  1. Develop with faculty a clear statement of instructional goals and/or objectives for the school, consistent with the established goals of the District.
  2. Assist teachers in establishing standards of expected progress for individual students in designated areas of study; develop use techniques for assessment of that progress, based upon expected student progress in the various areas of instruction.
  3. Cooperate with District administrative and supervisory personnel in curriculum development, articulation, research activities, student personnel issues, testing programs and official reports.
  4. Conduct teacher observations using, among other techniques, the “clinical supervision/instruction” model as appropriate.
  5. Provide for the evaluation of all certificated personnel assigned to the school according to the “District Guidelines” (based upon the “Stull Bill”); recommend assignment or reassignment as student and District needs require.
  6. Confer with and make recommendations to the Superintendent regarding the selection and retention of certificated personnel assigned to the school.
  7. Provide for the evaluation of classified personnel who are assigned to the school and who work under the direction of the principal.
  8. Provide for the proper management of the Agreements between the District and various employee organizations.
  9. Administer rules, regulations and policies set down by the Board of Education and District Administration.
  10. Establish appropriate practices and procedures consistent with the provisions of the Education Code and related procedures and codes.
  11. Provide for the delegation of responsibilities to a staff member when absent from school.
  12. Assist the school faculty in professional development.
  13. Orient new faculty members to the school, community and District.
  14. Work with school personnel and District administration to implement, assess and upgrade the school’s instructional program.

 

15. Develop, implement and evaluate procedures with respect to appropriate pupil   placement within the school.

16. Provide as appropriate, procedures which will ensure proper supervision of         children in the school, on the playground and on the school bus as appropriate.

17. Provide for the supervision of student (and staff) attendance within the school.

18.  Require that complete and up to date records are kept in accordance with the    California Education Code and District Policies.

19.  Be responsible for appropriate utilization of staff and special programs to meet              the individual needs of children.

20.  Encourage suitable and adequate student activities: encourage organizations in             the school to develop the varying interests and activities of the students and to       provide for the supervision of such activities and organizations.

21.  Work cooperatively with organizations in the community.

22.  Be on the school premises during school hours and reasonable time before and              after school, unless absent on school business or with the knowledge of the                         District Administration.

23.  Interpret school and District policies to the staff and community.

24.  Attend job related meetings.

25.  Perform additional duties assigned by the District Administration.
