The Career Technical Education Department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking qualified individuals for a current opportunity as the Vocational Instructional Technician - Automotive Technology. This incumbent will need to have knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used for servicing Gasoline, Compressed Natural Gas, Diesel engines with additional knowledge in Hybrid and Electric Vehicle operation, servicing, and maintenance. We are looking for someone who has obtained a high school diploma or GED equivalency and has two years of journey-level auto mechanics experience. An Associate's degree in Automotive Technology is highly desirable. Duties
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision; provides vocational instruction and clerical support in the Automotive Technology program. Prepares equipment, materials, supplies, and training aids for classroom instruction and student laboratory assignments. Provides instruction and assists students in the proper use and operation of shop equipment. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly learning environment.
The Vocational Instructional Technician - Automotive Technology is responsible for assisting in maintaining and operating the District's Automotive Technology facility and supporting the instructional program, including ordering and maintaining an inventory of equipment, tools, supplies, and materials, and preparing equipment and materials shop for class instruction, demonstrations, and student laboratory exercises. The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of support functions to assist faculty in the general operation of the Automotive Technology instructional program. The incumbent may lead the work of assigned work study students. Work assigned requires a detailed knowledge of subject areas applicable to the Automotive Technology program or related automotive work and the ability to provide instruction to others in an effective manner.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
Education, Training and Experience:
This classification requires graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent. An Associate's degree in Automotive Technology is desirable. Two (2) years of journey-level auto mechanics experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy. A valid forklift operator's certificate must be obtained within six months of employment. Highly desirable that applicant have at least one ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification and willingness to earn additional certifications. Other desirable automotive industry certifications for mechanical maintenance or ASE G1 Maintenance and Light Repair.
Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.
