PITTSBURG UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Description Secondary Classroom Teacher (Junior and Senior High School) Primary Function: A secondary teacher teaches one or more classes in grades six through twelve. Administrative Relationship: Under the immediate direction of the site administrator or designee. Major Duties and Responsibilities: All secondary classroom teachers will: 1.Teach in field of subject matter training, expertise, or in other areas of assigned instructional responsibilities when load conditions, instructional requirements or other verifiable and good reasons make it necessary. 2.Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. 3.Provide planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available time for instruction. 4.Develop lesson plans and instructional materials which adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. 5.Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom. 6.Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate with parents on the individual pupil’s progress. 7.Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, social hygiene, attitude and learning problems. 8.Provide necessary display and interest material to promote and effective learning environment in the classroom. 9.Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities. 10.Perform necessary attendance, accounting, and business services. 11.Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides, and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records. 12.Insures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible. 13.Shares equitable in supervising pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the normal working day. 14.Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program. 15.Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.           Army JROTC instructor to high school level cadets. Assists the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) in managing and implementing the overall JROTC unit program according to national, state, and district standards. Promotes cadet intellectual, social, patriotic, character education, and physical growth. Responsible for implementing the Army's national education curriculum and program requirements to include the preparation, planning, coordination, and supervision of all co-curricular service learning, special activities or events (community service projects, military ball, drill meets, honor guards, and other activities). Essential Functions Teach, assess, evaluate, and document student progress and growth through formal and informal evaluations procedures. Evaluate students' progress and determine materials and strategies to provide for their needs. Implement the Army's national curriculum, lesson plans, curriculum related activities, and objectives with other content areas in order to provide for learning and knowledge. Instructs 180 hours of military directed subject materials in classroom and leadership laboratory environment. Administer, advise, and appraise co-curricular teams (drill, rifle, physical training, and academic challenge). Assist the SAI in determining and supervising cadets who serve in key leadership positions (command and staff). Assumes direct responsibility for the development of appropriate behavior of students within the school setting by establishing and maintaining effective discipline and management procedures. Coordinates instructional activities and collaborates with other professional staff, both school and non-school-based, as required to maximize learning opportunities. Administer, advises, coordinate, and supervise special activities or events such as the annual military ball, drill meets, and annual leadership camp. Implement and maintain communication and coordination with the school faculty and staff to promote cadet involvement in school activities, cadet recruitment and retention. Coordinate, collaborate, and compile data for records in the automated cadet database. Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned. Ensure continuous communication with parents or guardians, both written and oral, to keep them informed of a cadet's progress. Assist the SAI in managing and submission of all reports required by the Army and the district. Counsel, mentor, and tutor cadets as needed. Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follow federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards. Desired Qualifications Retired Army Non-Comissioned Officer or Warrant Eligible to obtain Army JROTC instructor certification. Baccalaureate preferred. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and automation technology skills. Willing to wear the appropriate uniform and meet personal grooming standards as outlined in Army regulations. Demonstrated troop level experience.
