We are looking for a full-time pool substitute. King Chavez Arts and Athletics Academy serves grades 4-5. This position is full-time with benefits. When not subbing into a classroom on campus or online, our Community Teachers work in an auxiliary classroom capacity.

JOB DESCRIPTION


POSITION: Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL:
To plan and carry out an effective educational program that will maximize learning for all students and contribute to their development into confident, competent and creative learners.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
*Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential or appropriate Single Subject Credential.
*Must hold or be eligible for NCLB Certification of Highly Qualified Teacher status.
*CLAD/BCLAD/CTEL or equivalent.
*Bachelor’s Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
*Ability to read, write, and speak English. Bilingual Spanish is preferred, but not required.
*Employment is contingent on satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and negative TB skin test or chest X-ray.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Believe deeply in the mission and values of King-Chavez Neighborhood of Schools.
*Be familiar with and demonstrate the King-Chavez educational five pillars.
*Build quality relationships with students.
*Establish a culture of high expectations that includes standards mastery and high school/college preparation for all students. Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and persevere with challenging tasks.
*Engage and support all students in learning by using a variety of instructional strategies and resources to respond to students’ diverse needs and by engaging students in problem solving and critical thinking skills, using culturally relevant examples. Work towards developing and maintaining cultural competencies.
*Instruct students in citizenship and character education.
*Plan, monitor, and design learning experiences for all students that reflect standards-based grade-level curriculum expectations appropriate to the readiness and maturity of the students. Include a variety of instructional strategies and materials, organized in such a way as to maximize student understanding.
*Prepare and utilize lesson plans, which shall be submitted to the Principal. All materials, including the lesson plans, seating chart, class list, assigned duties and schedules, shall be available to the substitute teacher.
*Select books, instructional aids, materials and supplies for the classroom, and maintain required inventory records.
*Assess and document students’ academic and social growth regularly in accordance with state guidelines. Examine student assessment data to prepare progress reports and intervention plans consistent with school requirements, and to refine classroom activities to differentiate instruction for each student.
*Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, KCNS policy, and administrative regulations, including cumulative records folders, attendance reports, and reports to parents.
*Build quality relationships with all parents through “back-to-school” events, classroom visitations, home visits, conferences, telephone conversations, written communications and work samples so that parents are aware of their children’s school progress and adjustment. Find ways to involve parents in their children’s education.
*Conduct appropriate testing for potential learning disabilities of students on a regular basis and make referrals as required. Collaborate with Special Education service personnel for RTI and to provide instructional services to students with special needs consistent with Individual Education Plans.
*Create and implement a classroom management plan that includes positive behavior supports needed to achieve an engaging and safe learning atmosphere in the classroom. Assume the primary responsibility for supervision of the behavior of students during the entire school day.
*Make referrals to Counselor, Vice-Principal or Principal for pupils who demonstrate severe unsocial behavioral patterns.
*Carry out assigned pupil supervision outside classroom such as yard duty, assemblies, athletic events and extracurricular activities and fire and other emergency drills.
*Assist in general building supervision and discipline of students outside of the classroom.
*Maintain a neat, clean classroom environment and a professional personal appearance.
*Collaborate with fellow teachers on planning, professional development, and standards-based curriculum development and common assessment designed to contribute to the continuous improvement of instruction at the school. Share best practices. Participate actively in Professional Learning Community activities, both on-site and off-site.
*Attend a reasonable number of meetings, parent conferences, and evening school programs that require student supervision.
*Support school-wide initiatives.
*Adhere to the standards, policies and practices outlined in the KCNS Employment Handbook and specific Academy/Teacher Handbook.
*Perform all other obligations mandated by law or KCNS policy, and other reasonable and appropriate tasks assigned by the Administration.

*Sitting in order to work at desks or tables.
