ASSESSMENT ASSISTANT II DEFINITION: Under the general supervision of the principal, coordinates school site and district assessments, administers language proficiency tests to students; scores tests; performs clerical duties; and does other related work as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Coordinates the state, federal, district, and school site testing programs. • Administers proficiency tests to individual students using prepared tests, drawings and tape recordings to determine the student’s proficiency level in English and/or Spanish. • Tests students upon initial enrollment; re-test students in accordance with established requirements; distributes and collects tests, papers, supplies and materials • Supervises students during test periods; scores tests and prepares evaluation of results; maintains required records. • Records test scores, processes required forms and files data in student cumulative records. • Prepares summary of students tested by grade level; sends periodic lists and reports to the District Office as required. • Reviews records, reports and data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with predetermined and standardized procedures. • Communicates effectively with students in two languages, establishing and maintaining positive relations with students. • Inputs, maintains data, and prepares reports using a computer terminal or microcomputer. • Assists in gathering information for R-30 and Emergency Immigrant reports. • Assists and participates in the identification and gathering of information for Re-designation of students. • May perform clerical duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: • Correct oral and written usage of English and Spanish; • Basic record-keeping techniques; • Basic methods of effective cross-cultural communication; • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; • Student behavior management strategies and techniques; • Basic arithmetical concepts; • Routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures. Ability to: • Speak, read and write in a second designated language; • Translate from English to a second designated language and from a second language to English with accuracy and comprehension; • Learn to administer, score and evaluate the results of specific language tests; MOUNTAIN VIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT ASSESSMENT ASSISTANT II • Maintain records and files; • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; • Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately; • Develops schedules and time lines; • In-service faculty and staff • Type or keyboard; • Perform simple and repetitive tasks; • Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups; • Communicate effectively in oral and written form in English and a second language as required by the assignment; • Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions. •Persons performing service in the position classification will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects. •This type of work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods. •Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by coursework or training in student assessment or in multilingual and multicultural programs.
