Job Summary General Description: Tri-Valley Regional Occupational Program (TVROP) is looking for a talented, high school Medical Occupations instructor, who is ready to use their industry experience to shape our next-generation workforce. TVROP serves the Dublin, Livermore Valley Joint, and Pleasanton Unified School Districts, providing high school students with high-quality programs focused on ensuring students are able to earn a career by choice, not by chance. Our local business, industry, and college partnerships help instructors engage students in application-based learning to connect students beyond the walls of the classroom. Job Responsibilities: See Job Description Additional Responsibilities: The instructor will: • Have reliable transportation and a valid California driver's license. • Develops and maintains positive contacts with employers to develop training and placement opportunities for students. • Supervises students in worksite training, develops and maintains Community Classroom (CC) compliance records, and adheres to guidelines and regulations. • Maintains records of competency level and attendance for each student and develops training plans for workplace learning sites (CC). • Work with local Health Organizations Students Association (HOSA) organizations to promote student leadership. • Adhere to all district field trip guidelines, including chaperones, overnight field trip requirements, and completion of all paperwork.

Must have a strong interest in teaching high school students who are seeking a career in the medical occupations field.  The successful candidate should have the ability to individualize the course content and instructional techniques in order to meet a variety of student needs in learning styles; knowledge of employment and training practices in the related industry; and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. 

 Highly Desirable:     Medical or Dental Licensure/Certification RN or LVN and CPR card or

                              ?  RN or LVN nursing experience and/or

                              ?  Possess current CCMA (California Certified Medical Assistant)

Applicant must demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement the intent of federal and state mandates for career technical education in a classroom setting; and ability to communicate successfully with parents and staff;    knowledge of training and employment practices in community and cooperative field sites in related fields of medical occupations; ability to plan, coordinate, and implement successful student training placements; and ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking with a variety of adults in the community and a diverse student population.  Applicant must have the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain continuity in programs throughout the Tri-Valley high schools and ensure success of student placement in the community.

 Under the direction of the Executive Director, plan and implement an instructional program within the specific subject area, which meets the labor market needs in that industry.  Confer with and develop contractual relationships with local healthcare providers; hold one Advisory Committee meeting, in conjunction with the Nursing Program/Instructor, annually; develop and maintain positive contacts with employers to assist in job placement opportunities for qualified students; develop and coordinate community classrooms and cooperative vocational education partnerships with these agencies.  Instruct high school students, 16 years of age and older, on skills necessary to enter specific career technical entry-level positions; provide lectures and demonstrations; assess student progress; correct papers and assign grades; evaluate student skills and competencies through testing and observation; advise parents and students of student progress.  Comply with all ROP and State requirements.

 General Description:

  • Instructs high school students in the core area of medical occupations. 
  • Organizes specialized learning experiences for students in the community classroom and cooperative education work sites.
  • Maintains a responsible, career-related environment for individual and group instruction. 
  • Refines curriculum based on recommendations from a career technical advisory committee comprised of representatives from business and industry. 
  • Uses and teaches positive guidance and classroom management techniques. 
  • Provides activities, projects and other materials that replicate the needs and requirements found in related employment fields. 
  • Develops and maintains positive contacts with field site supervisors and employers to provide successful training and placement opportunities for students. 
  • Supervises students in field site training. 
  • Works cooperatively with ROP and high school faculty in grades 9-14 Career Paths.
  • Works collaboratively with other instructors (i.e. Nursing Careers instructor for placement and training opportunities) 
  • Maintains records of attendance, grades and competency level for each student including follow-up reports.
  • Participates in staff development activities, workshops and seminars. 
  • Works effectively to secure enrollment (speaking, informational meetings). 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of TVROP.

Upon hire, fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice for Tri-Valley ROP and evidence of a negative Tuberculosis (TB) test will be required.
