Description of Position This position is for a full time math teaching position at IVA middle school teaching 5 classes. The position is available to highly qualified single subject math credentialed teachers with special interest and competencies in teaching for deep understanding of mathematical concepts and opportunity for mathematical practices in Grade 6-8 content. The Intellectual Virtues Academy Middle School Teacher is passionate about their content and holds educational beliefs and values aligned with an intellectual virtues approach and possesses and models the practices of intellectual virtues themselves. IVA’s mission, in its most basic form, is to help students experience meaningful growth in intellectual virtues in the context of academic teaching and learning. The teacher understands and promotes the school’s distinctive mission and vision both within and outside the immediate school community. The teacher will work closely with IVA’s math department and principal to plan, develop, organize and conduct a comprehensive educational program for IVA’s middle school students and the math curriculum in particular. The teacher will faithfully implement and practice IVA’s unique character-based educational model. The teacher is motivated and empowered to teach, provide feedback, and seek growth in students’ competencies and thinking practices in year-long math classes with the potential to teach creative electives. As a small school with a small and close knit educator team, the math teachers work closely with their colleagues and other school staff to help shape a culture of thinking and a collaborative community of care. Each IVA teacher functions as a valuable thought partner working closely with the Principal to implement the school’s mission and vision.
