TITLE: TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT

CLASSIFICATION: Teacher Salary Schedule

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

 

 

Definition: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, the teacher on special assignment (TOSA) will work directly with teachers throughout the district to guide and support the implementation of district focused initiatives in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and/or professional development.

 

Job Characteristics:

  • Extensive knowledge and skills connected to district areas of focus/district initiatives
    • A strong commitment to deepening the strategy work taking place in the district, particularly in the area of math and literacy
    • Active involvement in LAFSD professional development, including strategy and coaching sessions
    • An outstanding ability to communicate and interact with peers and to provide them with effective support and feedback
    • Teacher leadership experience
    • Excellent understanding and capacity for effective instructional delivery
    • Highly organized with an ability to facilitate and manage coaching schedules at numerous sites
    • Self-motivated with an ability to build trust in order to expand coaching opportunities
    • Ability to provide Board updates and presentations

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide meaningful direct support and feedback to teachers focused on key strategy work, particularly in math and literacy
  • Structure opportunities and corresponding schedules for on-going, systemic coaching with all involved teachers
  • Establish and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships with teachers and administrators
  • Build coaching capacity so that coaching opportunities expand
  • Continue to work directly with outside content coaching experts to build coaching expertise
    • Continue to seek opportunities for professional development in order to expand knowledge of coaching and strategy work
    • Continue to partner with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and principals to deepen and expand strategy work within the district
    • Continue to seek innovative ways to build coaching capacity and deepen strategy work

 

Education and Qualifications:

  • Valid CA Teaching Credential
  • Five years teaching experience within a district
  • Elementary and middle school teaching experience desired
  • Participation in district workshops and strategy related study sessions
  • Some coaching experience and training preferred
