PURPOSE STATEMENT: The job of School Psychologist-Intern was established for the purpose/s of providing psychological services, under the supervision of a credentialed school psychologist, by working directly with students, classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to develop a positive learning environment for students. All reports must be reviewed and cosigned by the Director of Student Services or appropraitely credentialed desginee. The job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: The School Psychologist Intern shall be provided with individual supervision by a credentialed School Psychologist employed by the Buckeye Union School District on a scheduled basis. This job reports to the Director of Student Services ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: *Attends staff, professional development, and interagency meetings as assigned for the purpose of communicating and conveying information. *Consults staff and parents regarding behavioral, learning, and social issues for the purpose of correlating all available information regarding individual cases. *Developes evaluations for the purpose of determining Special Education placement and re-evaluation, guidance, and consultation, and developing special intervention plans such as those related to 504 accommodations and funtional behavioral assessments. *Observes students for the purpose of providing consultation services to teachers, parents, and other support staff, and providing direct therapeutic invterventions to students identified as "at risk". *Participates in couseling services, both indiviudal and group, as needed for the purpose of ensuring effective programs to assist children who experience physical, mental, social, or emotional difficulties. *Participates in school-based Student Success Teams for the purpose of providing pre-referral services prior to formal special education assessment; obtaining opportunities for consultation at individual school sites; and providing linkages to outside services for parents, students, and teachers. *Participates in Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meetings for the purpose of observing and participating in the placement of students through the IEP process; observing and participating in the development of intervention plans. *Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. *Prepares mandated reports (e.g. correspondence, memos, behavior intervention plans, required documentation, Psych Ed Summary, Psych Report, etc.) for the purpose of use in IEP team meetings. *Presents verbal and written reports to parents and others and confers with appropriate staff for the purpose of better understanding and placement of each student. JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including pertinent computer software; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; review and interpret highly tehcnical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job iclude: psychology and educational principles; and pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws. Ability is also required to work with diverse individuals and/or groups; problem sovling is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; working with detailed information/data; and maintaining effective working relationships. RESPONSIBILITIES include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of significant resources from other work units is routinely required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the organization's services. WORKING ENVIRONMENT - The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following phsyical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. EXPERIENCE - Job related experience within speciliazed field is required. EDUCATION - Masters degree in job related area preferred. EQUIVALENCY - Two years of successful experience in a school setting working with students who have special needs. REQUIRED TESTING - None specified. CONTINUING EDUC./TRAINING - None specified.
