LAFAYETTE SCHOOL DISTRICT

 

TITLE:  ROBOTICS/MAKERSPACE INSTRUCTOR

CLASSIFICATION: Certificated Teacher Salary Schedule

REPORTS TO: Stanley Middle School Principal

 

DEFINITION:

 

Under the direction of the Stanley administration, the Robotics/Makerspace instructor will plan, coordinate, provide leadership, and maintain a focus on the development of strategic approaches for the delivery of supplemental academic skills in Robotics and Makerspace instruction in yearlong courses, semester courses, and as part of an elective rotation for 6th grade students. The Robotics/Makerspace Instructor will design, promote and facilitate community events to showcase the work being done by the students in their programs throughout the year. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

?       Establishes a culture of high expectations for all students

?       Develops and implements lesson plans and classroom activities consistent with California State Standards and district adopted curriculum

?       Knowledge and experience with Lego Robotics, Sphero and Scratch-based coding programs is preferred

?       Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning

?       Has a working understanding of electronic circuitry and the Arduino program

?       Assesses students regularly, examines student assessment data, and refines classroom activities to differentiate instruction for each student

?       Collaborates closely with team members (both grade-level and school-wide) to align curriculum across subjects, to improve own and others’ instructional practices, and to share best practices

?       Actively participates in professional development activities, including: training sessions and working with other teachers, principal, and/or instructional coaches

?       Provides students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress; finds ways to involve parents/guardians in their students’ education

?       Identifies unique student needs and collaborates with other team members and outside service providers; diagnoses and addresses learning challenges

?       Demonstrates knowledge of, and support for, Lafayette Elementary School District’s mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior

?       Performs all other related duties as assigned

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

 

?       Programming in Arduino or C++

?       Robotics

?       Vector Graphics Software (i.e. Illustrator)

?       Photoshop/Adobe Illustrator

?       Basic Electronics (Motors, LED's, Solenoids etc)

?       3d Modeling Software (ViaCad, 360, Tinkercad etc)

?       Experience with 3d Printers, laser cutters.

?       Vectric CNC Software  (preferred)


EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

?       Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles

?       Knowledge of subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks and assessments

?       Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data

?       Ability and willingness to reflect and improve and collaborate with colleagues, parents and community

?       Master’s degree preferred

?       Valid California Single Subject Science Credential

?       Programming experience and an Engineering or Industrial Arts background

?       2+ years working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant preferred
