Santa Barbara City College is seeking a full-time, tenure track faculty member position in Disability Services and Programs for Students (DSPS) to start in Fall 2023. In 2009, SBCC was designated as an Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting our responsibility to support and serve the needs of our Latina/o/x students. Moreover, given our overall student population, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to join a department that is dedicated to the use of curriculum and pedagogy that shares SBCC's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse post-traditional student population.

 

Commencing Fall 2023, a full-time, tenure-track faculty position, with an additional 20 extended contract days paid at salary daily rate, will be available in the Disability Services and Programs for Students (DSPS). The Coordinator will assume primary responsibility for planning, developing, implementing, evaluating and coordinating educational support services for students with disabilities; providing direct counseling/advising, assessment and instruction to students with disabilities; facilitating the interactive process to determine fundamental requirements and reasonable accommodations for college students with disabilities; hiring, training and evaluating contract faculty, staff and hourly DSPS employees; providing in-service training for faculty and staff; managing the DSPS budget, general fund allocations, federal, state and other grants; providing expertise for college personnel in meeting the requirements of federal and state disability related laws; liaising with appropriate community agencies; developing and accessing student learning outcomes (SLOs); developing curricula; preparing reports, research, student satisfaction surveys and program plans.

 

SALARY & PERSONNEL BENEFITS:

 

The current salary schedule range for an entering tenure-track faculty member is $64,204 - $100,654 plus an earned doctoral bonus of $3,210.20. Depending on the entry step, the faculty member advances one-step each year and has the potential to reach the current maximum step of $128,134, depending on the educational level attained. Starting salary is commensurate with academic preparation and full-time related, paid experience. In addition to salary, each full-time employee participates in a "cafeteria style" health and welfare benefits program.

 

Representative Duties

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Evidence of two (2) out of the four (4) Cluster Hire characteristics

• Commitment to the community college mission.

• An understanding of the implications a Hispanic-Serving designation suggests for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.

 

• An understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of racially and/or ethnically minoritized students within Higher Education shape patterns of participation and outcomes within the classroom.

 

• Evidence of working effectively with racially and/or ethnically diverse populations.

 

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of students with different ability statuses (e.g. physical and/or learning)

 

• An understanding of anti-racist and culturally-responsive pedagogical practices which honor and respect what students bring to the classroom and uses students' prior knowledge and/or lived experiences to inform instruction.

 

• Evidence of working effectively with post-traditional students

 

• Possess leadership and communication skills to effectively address faculty and student issues.

 

• Experience utilizing third party data management systems to serve students and maintain records such as Clockwork, SAM and AIM

 

• Experience in backend software administration and management for the purpose of maintaining state legal compliance as it relates to data, points of contact, funding, and MIS reporting as well as development, implementation and troubleshooting of program.

 

• At least one year's experience providing counseling/advising, instruction, or psychological assessment to students with disabilities in higher education.

 

• At least one year's experience in management or administration in an educational setting.

 

• Knowledge of assistive computer technology and computer assisted instruction.

 

• Knowledge of laws and regulations governing Disabled Student Programs and Services in California Community Colleges.

 

• Demonstrated experience with utilization of teaching techniques and methods that enhance student learning and are effective in responding to diverse learning styles.

 

• Demonstrated experience with development and implementation of student learning outcomes and utilization of results for improvement of students learning.

 

• Ability to communicate with ASL and Spanish.

 

• Experience working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic and disability backgrounds including intervention, retention and success strategies.

 

Education and Experience

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.

 

• Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling OR

 

• Master's degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling OR a Bachelor's degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); AND either fifteen (15) or more semester units in upper division or graduate-level coursework specifically related to people with disabilities, OR

 

• Completion of six (6) semester units, or the equivalent of graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses, in a post-secondary DSPS program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities OR

 

• Two (2) years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:

 

• Counseling students with disabilities OR

 

• Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities disabilities

 

• Possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to all of the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required material.

 

• Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, culture, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

Selection Procedure:

 

The selection committee, who will recommend candidates for personal interviews at SBCC, will initially review online applications. A teaching demonstration will be required for selected applicants. After the initial interviews have been conducted, the committee will recommend the top candidates to the Superintendent/President for a final interview. The successful candidate's name will then be presented to the Board of Trustees for final approval and authorization to hire. Candidates will participate primarily in remote interviews and in some instances final interviews may be conducted in person while observing all health and safety protocols as approved by the Santa Barbara County Health Department.
