About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Basic Function: Under the direction of the principal, perform a variety of library duties in the acquisition, circulation, maintenance, processing and distribution of books and instructional materials at an assigned elementary school site; assist students and teachers in the selection, location and use of library materials and equipment. Distinguishing Characteristics: The Library Media Technician I classification is assigned to an elementary school library. Incumbents perform a variety of library duties involved in the acquisition, circulation, maintenance, processing and distribution of books and instructional materials. The Library Media Technician II classification is assigned to a middle or high school library. Incumbents coordinate textbook circulation and are responsible for maintaining a larger and more diverse collection of library materials. Knowledge of: Basic functions, operations, and maintenance of school libraries, library practices, procedures, reference materials, resources, and terminology, library classification including the Dewey Decimal system, filing, indexing and inventory procedures (refer to job description for full details). Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years clerical or library experience including work with computer operations and library circulation functions. Special Qualifications upon hire for positions at a school site that is supported by Title I funds pursuant to the "No Child Left Behind Act of 2001" / ESSA: Complete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education (college level) OR Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree OR Met (pass) an assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics OR reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
