AVID TUTOR (Advancement Via Individual Determination) LEMOORE UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor or AVID Coordinator, assists certificated teacher/s in working with students in a group or an individual basis assisting with specific instructional tasks; utilizing AVID curriculum and study techniques. Assists teachers in grading students assignments; entering grades in grade register; assist with administering tests; set up classroom; preparation of materials for class use; operate a variety of audio visual equipment; assist in taking roll and issue absence slips or passes as directed; may assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and duplicating materials; perform a variety of clerical tasks. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Assists teachers with individual and group supplemental instructions in the assigned subject areas. 2. Assists teachers with preparation of teaching and learning materials and activities. 3. Assists teachers with various clerical tasks, including preparation and duplication of instructional materials. 4. Operates audio visual equipment; utilize appropriate software entering grades and taking roll as directed. 5. Assists teachers in preparation of room set up, administering and proctoring tests. 6. Applies AVID precepts, techniques and curriculum in assessing the kinds of assistance students need; including evaluating student binders, including, notes, assignment sheets, calendars and writings. 7. Conduct brainstorming and prewriting sessions; work with students on writing process and respond to student writings. Guide discussion of student response groups. 8. Communicate effectively with teachers and AVID Coordinator on student progress. 9. Assist teachers in developing a resource file of enrichment materials for use in tutor sessions. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Passage of the Kings County Office of Education Proficiency Test with 80% or better score. 2. Must possess a high school diploma or GED. 3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students and staff. 4. Ability to maintain a professional working relationship with students, staff, public. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Possess an appropriate California driver’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. Insurability by the District liability insurance carrier. 2. Current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aide Certifications 3. Successful completion of some college credits in core subject areas. EXPERIENCE: Previous experience working in a school setting or with high school age students, preferred. Environment: Indoor classroom environment; outdoor environments, including grounds, and offices. Physical Abilities: Standing, walking and sitting for extended periods of time, moving on a variety of outdoor and indoor surfaces, including rough, wet, uneven terrain. Seeing, hearing and speaking to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Hazards: Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens, while moving indoors and outdoors; protruding or falling objects on grounds while walking around grounds.
