Bella Mente is looking for a highly motivated and caring individual to join our leadership team. A strong candidate will have a passion for the Montessori and Project Based Learning styles of education. This individual will be hired as an interim to complete the school year and may apply for the 23-24 school year. Retired school principals can apply (we have a 403b retirement system so employment is allowed with STRS/PERS retirement). Bella Mente Academies is a free public Montessori school, located in Vista. Bella Mente opened its doors in the fall of 2013 with approximately 330 students. Since then, it has grown to serve almost 400 students, grades TK-8. The mission of Bella Mente Academies is to provide students with the opportunity to acquire an education based on an “quality” curriculum founded on the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. We intend to promote an educational atmosphere that encourages socioeconomic diversity by providing all students with the opportunity to obtain a quality public education. Students at BMA master foundational skills in core content areas and learn how to work effectively on group and individual projects. Teachers provide systematic and explicit instruction in foundation skills balanced with hands-on thematic projects and experiences in the community, while allowing students to explore personal areas of interest, all based on the studies of Maria Montessori. BASIC FUNCTION:    Under the direction of the Executive Director, works in close cooperation with the staff, parents, and other members of the community to determine common educational goals and objectives that will provide an effective educational program directed toward meeting the intellectual, emotional, and social needs of each student; to act as the educational leader and manager of the school, and to have the direct responsibility for the administration of the school and its educational program.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Prepares a budget based on the overall needs of the school and requisitions supplies and equipment accordingly;
  • Participates in the selection of staff personnel when possible and determines staff assignments;
  • Acquaints members of the school staff with school philosophy, policies, procedures, and organization;
  • Maintains a safe, healthy, and positive school atmosphere;
  • Prepares and submits suggestions for plant and ground improvement to Executive Director and Facilities Coordinator;
  • Works continually with staff members to maintain and build a highly efficient school operation to assure maximum educational benefits for pupils;
  • Plans with members of the staff for the utilization of staffing units to the best advantage of the school and its instructional program;
  • Prepares plans for long term joint use of the facilities with other agencies such as before and after school care, sports and extracurricular activities;
  • Utilizes all available resources for implementation of the instructional program for the welfare of the students;
  • Prepares and submits all reports required by the district, county, and state as requested by the Executive Director;
  • Supervises, directs, and assists staff members in the improvement of instruction through classroom visitations, teacher conferences, staff meetings, bulletins, study groups, and in-service education;
  • Assists teachers in setting realistic goals and objectives for classes and student performances; evaluates the performance of staff members within the school based on identified goals and objectives; holds staff evaluation conferences; makes recommendations for continued employment, reassignment, or separation of the personnel from the school.
  • Organizes and directs group and individual testing of students and aids in the interpretation of test results to staff and parents.
  • Supervises the program of progress reporting to parents and confers with parents and teachers regarding the progress and adjustment of individual students;
  • Provides for counseling of students within the school;
  • Supervises all special classes and activities within the school (excluding Special Education);
  • Assists teachers in furthering professional growth by stimulating interest in participating in professional organizations and in-service training;
  • Works  continuously with individual parents, parent groups, and other members of the community for the welfare of the students;
  • Communicates plans, policies, and programs of the school to the community;
  • Carries out and supports all policies and programs that have been established and/or adopted by the Executive Director and the Board of Directors and recommends policies and programs that would benefit the total educational operation;
  • Utilizes all auxiliary services available toward the investigation, planning, implementation, and evaluation of new programs.

Credential: California Administrative Services Credential; California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential; Completion of a Master’s Degree; Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible teaching/counseling and/or administrative experience in education
