JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Senior Information Technology (IT) Specialist Job Purpose Statement/s: Under direct supervision of the Technology Coordinator, the “Senior Information Technology (IT) Specialist” will provide highly technical and specialized guidance, and solutions to information technology problems. The Senior IT Specialist will act as the lead in defining and executing systems related to technical support services, including District website development and maintenance, and other network related services. This is a hands-on technical role that will involve supervising field technicians. Essential Job Functions: • Supervises field technicians and manages Technical Support Services. • Manages the installation and maintenance of printers, servers, workstations and network systems. • Manages web content, web presence, and liaisons with District staff to keep websites updated. • Provides scheduled maintenance on District-owned IT equipment. • Assists users to resolve software, printer, server, workstation, and network issues. • Manages the maintenance and inventory of all District computer hardware and software. • Assists in running various cabling (i.e. CAT-5, Coaxial & Fiber), working with switches, hubs and routers. • Performs quality assurance testing of new computer systems and software. • Performs complex analysis of systems and procedures. • Participates in the review and definitions of problems with emphasis on networking and personal computers. • Tests software implementations for stability, capacity, and functionality. • Operates, controls and installs computer equipment along with auxiliary and peripheral components in accordance with standard operating procedures. • Assist District in troubleshooting data communication problems. • Assists with preparing quotes for hardware and software. • Develop training materials to support District staff. • Assists with preparing, processing, and maintaining purchase orders records. • Ability to manage projects and work flow for timely completion. • Communicate effectively in both oral and in written form. • Ability to use other technical equipment such as cameras, scanners, projectors and other presentation systems. Other Job functions: ? Provides training to support District staff. ? Related duties as assigned, attend meetings and in service training. Job Requirements Qualifications: ? Experience: 2+ years managing Technical Support Services; strong server and workstation administration in a Microsoft environment; and 2+ years experience assisting or managing network security. ? Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills with appropriate policies, procedures, etc.; basic instructional equipment and materials; English in both written and verbal form; problem-solving techniques; rules of grammar, punctuation and spelling. Basic skills in computer concepts and applications including e mail packages, TCP/IP networks; access and use of the Internet, microcomputers and software applications; WordPerfect, MSOffice, and other word processing and spreadsheets; related hardware such as routers, switches, hubs, bridges, NICs; operation and coordination of data processing equipment. Extensive knowledge of: ? Cisco LAN (wired and wireless) theory and best practice methods. Knowledge of: ? Personal Computers, wired and wireless LAN technologies, WAN circuits and methods, Windows 95-Vista, Ethernet, Telephony, Windows Server 2000-2003, proxies, server and network management software, security theory and methods. ? TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, firewalls, VPN and other remote access methods. ? Active Directory design, maintenance, and use. ? Knowledge of Cisco and HP network switches, hubs and routers. ? WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Access, Lotus and other word processing spreadsheets and database programs. ? Network storage theory and best practice methods. ? Data processing theories, concepts and capabilities, systems analysis. ? Data Communications, usage of data lines and related hardware. ? Operations and coordination of data processing equipment. ? On-line communications hardware and software. ? Modem office methods and procedures. ? Operation of computer equipment and office machines. Ability to travel locally in county and out of county in own vehicle; perform routine and repetitive work to completion; attend meetings and in-service training; work closely with users of personal computers; work at any employer work location; make judgments and decisions; perform a variety of duties involving frequent changes of tasks, aptitudes, techniques, procedures, etc.; and work under supervision of supervisor. Significant physical abilities include sitting for extended periods of time, climbing ladders, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity (including fine print), manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to operate computer equipment, able to lift boxes of computer paper and equipment in cartons. ? Education Required: High School Diploma; Preferred A.A. Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience with emphasis in computers and networking. ? Training Required: Advanced experience and training in the operation, maintenance, and repair of servers, workstations and network systems. Three to five years of strong LAN Administration and workstation support skills in a Microsoft environment. ? Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Tuberculosis Screening, Possession of valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance.
