About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the “Gateway to the Delta” and is one of California’s oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000. BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the principal or designee, provide support and assistance to students in the Wellness Center to use skills to develop sustainable wellness practices. Monitor the operation of the Wellness Center which includes managing the orderly flow of students in and out of the center; meet, greet, and support students within the center; provide organizational support for wellness related services; perform a variety of support activities related to social and emotional development; perform a variety of clerical support duties.

Knowledge of: Child guidance principles and practices, basic subjects taught in district schools including arithmetic, reading, writing, grammar, and spelling. Safe practices in classroom and playground activities. Basic instructional methods and techniques, interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Ability to: Create the foundation to support student mental health and social emotional learning, reinforce individual or small groups of students as directed by the administrator, monitor, observe, and report student behavior and progress according to approved policies and procedures (see job description for full details). Education/Experience Requirements: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school or equivalent; experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting with increasing levels of responsibility working with students; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) paraprofessional proficiency requirement: Complete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education (college level) OR obtained an Associate’s (or higher) degree OR met (pass) an assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics OR reading, writing, and mathematics readiness. Licenses and other requirements: Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certificate issued by an authorized agency.
