The Julian Union High School District Governing Board is seeking a visionary leader who will make a lasting contribution to the district and develop and implement solutions to the challenges facing the district. The Board is seeking an experienced, open and energetic individual who is capable of providing effective educational and administrative leadership. The board desires an individual who will be visible and active in the community, with long-term goals and objectives for the district. The Board's vision has all the necessary ingredients and support for the Superintendent/Principal to lead the district to world-class standards in high academic achievement and to “put his/her own stamp” on the District. The small, dedicated, and enthusiastic nature of the district creates a context in which the vision of the right leader in concert with the Board and staff can be fulfilled. The Governing Board and staff are committed to providing an environment that improves academic performance and self-esteem of each student.

THE DISTRICT: Julian Union High School District, established in 1892, is the second oldest school district in San Diego County. The district provides a comprehensive high school program at Julian High School. The current enrollment of the district is 100 students in grades 9-12. The ratio of computer terminals to students is 1:1. Technology allows student access to AP and elective courses. The students come from two feeder districts, Julian Union Elementary District and Spencer Valley School District. District staff in addition to the superintendent/principal, includes a chief business official counselor, 2 confidential employees, 8 teachers and 3 full-time and 3 part-time classified staff. THE COMMUNITY: Located in the mountains of San Diego County, Julian is 65 miles east of the City of San Diego. Julian is an historic gold mining town and was the site of the only real gold rush in Southern California. Julian’s current gold lies in its people. Ranchers, farmers, artists, business owners and professionals make up Julian’s diverse community. With its “small town” atmosphere and a population of 1502, the district plays a central role in the community. It is the premier mountain retreat in the county and is unique in that it has four seasons. Spring brings the blossoming of many flowers including daffodils, summer is perfect for hiking and star gazing, fall is famous for our apples and fall colors, and winter brings snowfalls and bright, crisp, days. Specialty shops line our streets; our attractions are unique ranging from apple festivals to wolves.
