Instructional Assistant

 

General Description:

Under the supervision of the classroom teacher to assist in the process of classroom teaching and do related work as required. Must be available Monday - Friday from 11:30am to 3:15pm. The position is for 3.75 hours per day. This is a ten month position starting August 16, 2022 and ends June 8, 2023. Schedule follows the school year calendar including breaks: Fall, Winter, and Spring.

Typical Duties:

  • Assist the teacher in the delivery of lessons.
  • Present lessons prepared by the teacher to small groups of students.
  • Assist in the organization of classroom activities.
  • Assist in the maintenance of acceptable classroom behavior.
  • Correct student work, record grades, and maintain classroom bookkeeping and other records.
  • Duplicate material for instruction as required by the classroom teacher.
  • Communicate with the classroom teacher regarding individual child development.
  • Assist in other activities involving children outside the classroom.
  • Helps with distribution of student meals.
  • Student pick-up.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desirable Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

  • Operation of standard duplicating machines
  • School rules and regulations
  • District classified policies and procedures

Ability to:

  • Work well with children.
  • Work in cooperation with other adults.
  • Use discretion with confidential information.
  • Relate well to the public.
  • Communicate with other employees and classroom teacher.
  • Accept the position of classroom team member with teacher as head of the team.
  • Display an acceptable skill level in reading, writing, and arithmetic consistent with grade level/class assignments.
  • Type and operate basic classroom and office equipment.

Experience:

Experience working with elementary school age children. 

Education:

Minimum of 48 college units.
