BASIC FUNCTION:

The Culver City Unified School District’s Art and Innovation Lab (CCAIL) will develop the creative and visual skills of students in grades TK-5. The program will guide students through hands-on visual art explorations, engineering design challenges, and design thinking projects. The CCAIL teacher will assist, support and encourage students as they develop a sensitivity to design, sense of personal agency, and visual communication skills. 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Art and Innovation Lab teachers will:

  • Help to develop appropriate and implement interesting district curriculum for the elementary school student. Activities will be guided by Visual Art, CCUSD-specific Maker Learning and Science Engineering standards.
  • CCAIL activities will include multiple opportunities for English Learners to collaborate with their peers and develop their academic language.
  • Collaborate with TK-5 classroom teachers to coordinate CCAIL experiences with classroom-based instruction and integrate cross-curricular lesson extensions that can be taken back to the classroom.
  • Participate in curriculum development within the school of assignment and on a district level.
  • Model, foster and inspire a growth mindset within the classroom.
  • Deliver instruction and guide TK-5 students while in the Art and Innovation Lab.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with coordination (Site Principal, District personnel) as it relates to school group workshops in the Art and Innovation Lab including professional development, implementation, and training staff.
  • Coordinate with school site staff to create related programming and develop the Art & Innovation Lab as a resource for hands-on  learning.
  • Research, develop and innovate visual art and maker activities
  • Inventory and maintain all Art and Makerspace materials, tools and equipment, including hardware and software.
  • Maintain district curriculum and collaborate with CCAIL teacher team to grow and develop new projects suitable for students TK-5.
  • Work one on one with students or in groups to ideate, prototype and present projects.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient learning environment
  • Technical support of project documentation (video, photo, blog/vlog, digital portfolio, social media)
  • Lead students in time-management and project planning skills
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • Assist in the hosting of Art and Innovation Family events

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience and/or strong interest in working with elementary school students
  • Deep knowledge of Visual Art Standards, ELD Standards and CCSS
  • Experience with diverse, culturally relevant curriculum
  • Skills with visual art, technology, engineering, design, science, and/or craft
  • Experience (or familiarity with) tools such as, but not limited to: all tools in a basic art room including ceramic kilns, 3D printing, makey-makey, Piper, Tinkercad, Dash and Dot, and Ozobots   
  • Knowledge of the Elements of Art, Principles of Design and Studio Habits of Mind.
  • Knowledge of the Engineering Design Process and Growth Mindset
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Sincere motivation to work collaboratively with an energized, committed, and diverse team
  • Action oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach
  • Highly organized
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, oral, and computer skills

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Credentials: Valid California Teaching credential, visual art experience preferred. Valid English Learner authorization.  Bi-lingual preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment:

  • Office and classroom environment; subject to constant interruptions.

Physical Abilities:

  • Sitting and standing for extended periods of time, walking around campuses, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, computers, and hearing and speaking to communicate with others.

Hazards:

  • Exposure to potentially volatile and emotional students and parents.

Posses a valid California Single Subject: Art credential, OR Single subject/Multiple Subject credential with one of the following added limited authorizations: Supplementary Authorization: Art, Intro Supplementary Authorization: Art, Intro Subject Matter Authorization: Art. Also required is a CLAD/English Language Learner certification or equivalent. Bi-lingual preferred.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT All employment offers are conditional, based upon the successful completion of the following: Fingerprint/background clearance, a tuberculosis clearance and proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
