The Merced County Office of Education assists Merced County’s 20 school districts through support and oversight of curriculum and instruction, alternative education, business services, early education, technology, migrant education, special education, and teacher credentialing. MCOE is led by the elected Merced County Superintendent of Schools and governed by the Merced County Board of Education. While serving as a focal point to facilitate local school/government/community partnerships, MCOE is responsible for the fiscal oversight of each school district in Merced County, hears appeals for student expulsion hearings and interdistrict transfers and operates Green Meadows Outdoor School.

Job Summary
Under the administrative direction of the Principal – Outdoor Education Center, the Naturalist will fulfill those responsibilities necessary to implement a successful Environmental Education Program. Employee will be required to work a flexible work week which will include days, evenings, and some weekends. Hours per week will average forty (40). Employee will provide on-call emergency response services as part of his/her room and board package which includes on-site accommodations and meals during the school program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or Training: BA/BS Degree with courses or equivalent training in natural sciences and/or recreation management and/or environmental sciences. Experience: Over one school year of instructional experience in a residential outdoor environmental education program or similar activity prior to employment start date. Credentials and/or Skills: Valid CPR and First Aid certificates. Ability to work with children, adolescents and adults. Ability to lead singing and/or play a musical instrument. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Proof of valid CA driver’s license and minimum amount of liability insurance required by law. DMV-H6 printout required
