REDONDO BEACH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT REDONDO BEACH LEARNING ACADEMY –PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Redondo Beach Unified School District has established a Community Day School to provide a structured, high quality instructional program for high risk students in grades 9-12. Serving students on expulsion, probation, or SARB referral, the Redondo Beach USD Learning Academy is dedicated to rebuilding academic skills and modifying social behaviors in order for students to return to their home campus following their placement period. ABOUT THE POSITION: The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing both direct and independent instruction by utilizing a variety of differentiated teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of each student. The teacher will report to the Principal, Alternative Education. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: . Attend in-take meetings prior to student enrollment. . In conjunction with school counselor, assess student academic and course needs. . Establish and maintain operating principles to enhance a positive and orderly learning environment and hold students accountable for academic progress, regular attendance, and good citizenship. . Plan and implement lessons appropriate to subject content. . Monitor student progress through assigned work, observation, and tests. . Instruct students utilizing appropriately effective methods of differentiation. . Evaluate assignments, classroom work, and behavior and provide feedback to students, parents, and program supervisor. . Maintain individual student files to include academic progress, attendance, and behavior. . Celebrate student successes on a regular basis. . Contact and meet with parents. . Request textbooks, instructional materials including computers, equipment, and supplies as needed to ensure high quality teaching and learning . Administer district and state tests. . Attend program and district meetings as required. . Supervise instructional assistant(s). . Perform other duties as assigned. We are seeking an individual who is genuinely committed in all ways and at all times to facilitating success for high risk students and possesses the relational and subject content skills to meet their unique academic and social needs. He or she must manage student behavior in a positive manner, adapt to a wide variety of student interests, academic skills, and personal backgrounds, and effectively supervise a self-contained classroom of approximately 20-25 students.

Applicant must hold a California Teaching Credential CLAD/EL authorization. (Education Specialist Credential highly preferred) The ideal candidate must have a strong academic background, technology proficiency, creativity and interpersonal skills, with a desire to create opportunities for students to succeed and reengage in the educational process. Moreover, the ideal candidate must provide a rigorous classroom setting with differentiation for all students, collaborate with other teachers regularly, work patiently and diligently with students, and have a positive attitude to further develop instruction in all courses. The candidate needs to be NCLB compliant in all subjects to teach Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, Social Science, Physical Education and Electives daily and be able to provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual abilities and cultural backgrounds. DESIREABLE ATTRIBUTES: •Energetic approach to responsibilities •Can manage a self-contained classroom effectively •Experience working in an alternative setting •Assist in creating a college-going culture •Positive personality; sense of humor; and compassion •Self-motivated and potential for growth •Understanding of Common Core standards, curriculum, assessments and effective instructional pedagogy
