THE POSITION:
The Academic Advisor’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing such integrated services as will assist students to successfully complete their course of study at the assigned school and to provide counseling services as necessary. The Advisor will work closely and cooperatively with the Principal.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Under the direction of the principal, develops the annual master schedule.
2. Develops individual class schedules for all students.
3. Coordinates and administers required annual assessments.
4. Assists principal in preparing for the beginning of the school year.
5. Evaluates transcripts of incoming students and holds individual conferences with the parents of students new to the school for proper placement in the academic program.
6. Provides academic advisement to students and monitors their academic progress.
7. Responsible for creating and managing student database.
8. Works cooperatively with outside agencies.
9. Responsible for coordinating work experience programs and covering classes as necessary.
10. Provides student report cards, class lists, eligibility and honor roll, and other student database reports as required.
11. Provides direction and training to various site staffs to assure compliance with District database standards.
12. Counsels students in regard to personal, social, and family problems to aid the student in seeking solutions.
13. Supervises and evaluates support staff.
14. Maintains professional competence through participation in various in-service, educational activities provided by the District, local site, and in self-selected professional growth activities.
15. Mutually develops with the principal the goals by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with the District’s uniform guidelines for evaluation.
16. Participates in faculty meetings and other school-related committees and in curriculum development utilizing test results in planning.
17. Communicates with parents, administrators, students, and the public.
18. Maintains accurate records and reports.
19. Solicits scholarships and monitors and publishes scholarship information.
20. Maintains department budget.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Pupil Personnel Services credential.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience with developing master schedules and maintaining student databases.
• Ability to manipulate data from database as necessary.
• Effective communication skills both oral and written.
• Demonstrate eagerness, energy, and interest in understanding the needs of the students.
• Possess the interpersonal skills necessary to develop rapport with students and staff.
• Better than average recommendations from other professionals regarding personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and performance in the field of advisement.
• Demonstrates commitment to professional growth, development, and motivation.
