INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE DEFINITION Assists the classroom teacher in the supervision and training of student by relieving the teacher of routine clerical and instructional tasks, (Remedial, Reading, Math, Written Expression), to perform a variety of supportive duties and related work as requested. PRIMARY DUTIES Listens to and drills individual or small groups of students in reading, spelling, mathematics, and other subjects in accordance with instructions and guidance from a classroom teacher. Performs a variety of routine clerical and record-keeping activities. Sets up and arranges supplies and equipment in the classroom, prepares labels, charts, bulletin boards and displays and decorates classroom. Observes activities of students and maintains order on the school grounds, in the classroom or in the cafeteria. Operates various office equipment, computer, and appropriate software. Assists in maintaining classroom discipline. Runs errands for the teacher. Perform related duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: California State Education Code required Instructional Aide Proficiency Test administered by the Kings County Office of Education by scoring at 80% in all areas of the test. Score at 80% on a competency test selected by the District. Fingerprint and other clearances required for employment by the Lemoore Union High School District. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Supervised by an assigned teacher, department chairperson, and Project Coordinator. May supervise students in the classroom setting. NECESSARY EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Knowledge: Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Standard office equipment including personal computer and FAX machine. Operation of audio-visual equipment. Subject matter taught in the classroom. Ability: Establish and maintain effective relationships with adults and students. Perform routine clerical work. Operate standard office equipment. Understand and carry out directions. Experience: Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: Experience: One year of general clerical experience or work involving contact with children. Revised: 5/23/98
