The staff has developed a reputation for working with a diverse student population to develop individual student potential by providing high-quality instruction aligned with state standards and supported with 21st century learning skills. Core instruction includes comprehensive traditional academic subjects extended to include character development, digital literacy, art, music, hands-on science, and physical education. All schools offer embedded programs to address specific needs of gifted students and English Learners. Each school maintains a 1.0–1.5 full time positions to support intervention needs for all students. Each student in grades 3-6 has 1:1 access to Chromebooks. In grades K-2 there is one mobile digital device for every two students. All instructional environments include access to high speed wireless connectivity to the internet.

Elementary School Principal

 

The site principal, as the instructional leader, successfully defines and skillfully communicates the mission of the school. Manages curriculum and instruction, supervises teaching, monitors student progress, and creates a climate in which student learning is valued.

Essential Job Functions

  • Instructional Leadership:  Establishes positive school climate; assesses instructional program effectively; assists the staff in the  improvement  of  instruction.
  • Personnel Management and Interpersonal Relations:  Evaluates personnel in a competent, timely manner; motivates the staff to greater accomplishments; causes the staff to work as a dedicated professional unit; involves staff in decision making appropriate to the situation.
  • Community Relations: Skillfully and appropriately involves the community in school activities; maintains good community relations.
  • Budget and Plant Management:  Practices sound budgetary management; follows established business procedures.
  • Functions as a Member of the District Leadership Team:  Makes decisions and assumes responsibility for them; assumes and carries out district-wide  responsibilities willingly; cooperates with other staff members.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF: Educational theory, research, and current issues; state and federal laws and regulations governing management of public schools; child development appropriate to elementary education including motivation and discipline; California State Common Core Standards and State frameworks; State and local assessments: California Standards for the Teaching Profession and California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders; strategic planning; effective managerial skills as they relate to school administration: sound principles of learning theory and instructional methodology; the role of technology in education. 

ABILITY TO:  Provide leadership and direction in areas of responsibility; identify and analyze problems and propose plausible solutions; make decisions and be responsible for those decisions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, students, parents and district administration: use strong organizational and people skills; plan and organize; schedule, supervise, and evaluate the work of others; Analyze and explain student assessment data to inform instruction and evaluate program effectiveness; determine and implement appropriate staff development opportunities.

Qualifications

Must hold valid Teaching and Administrative Credential Master's Degree.

Minimum 3 years experience at elementary or intermediate level.

Experience as a Principal, Assistant Principal, Summer School Principal or Principal Designee desirable.

Standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods of time; using hands to handle or feel objects or controls, and use technological equipment and devices: reaching with the hands and arms; seeing, including close, distance, and peripheral vision, to ensure proper supervision of students to ensure proper supervision of students; hearing and speaking abilities to ensure proper supervision of students and to facilitate communication with students, staff, parents, and community.

HAZARDS                                                

Exposure to outside weather conditions on occasion; exposure to moderate to medium noise levels; potential for contact with blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
