Job Summary

Under the direction of the site administrator or designee, a substitute teacher is employed to function on an on-call, as-needed basis at Elementary, Middle and High School, Preschool, Special Education, and Adult Education levels to fulfill the duties of a certificated classroom teacher. There is no set schedule nor a guarantee of a specific amount of work. However, Fontana Unified School District is a large district. Therefore, there is an opportunity for substitute teachers to work on a regular basis.

***Applications will be reviewed in date order received*** If you do not yet hold a valid California teaching credential or 30-day sub permit, our staff may be able to assist you in applying for a 30-day sub permit. You should upload all required attachments that show us how you are eligible to apply for a sub permit. We will then review your job application and attachments to determine if you meet the minimum requirements to be a substitute teacher with our district.   • Copy of Transcript (transcripts are ONLY needed if you do not yet have a valid teaching credential or sub permit) your transcripts should show us the conferral date of your BA/BS and if you are seeking to meet the basic skills requirement through coursework then you should also make sure that you upload any additional transcripts if you have attended more than the one college/university where you obtained your BA/BS)
  • Credential Copy (valid CA teaching credential or 30-day sub permit (if you do not yet have your sub permit, include a document stating that you are uploading transcripts and proof of how you meet the basic skills which will be either through coursework, test results, a combination thereof, etc)
  • Letter of Introduction
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation (three letters are required, at least two of the letters must be dated within the last two years, all letters must include contact information of the person who wrote the letter)
  • Resume
  • Test Results/Materials (test results are ONLY needed if you do not yet have a valid teaching credential or sub permit) Passage of SB 1397 has temporarily waived the Basic Skills Requirement from January 1, 2023, to July 1, 2024. Basic skills proficiency will once again be required for the initial issuance of the Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit after July 1, 2024. )
