DEFINITION: Under general supervision, installs, maintains and repairs a variety of sprinkler systems in the school district; and performs related duties as assigned. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: • Repairs permanent and portable sprinkler systems and replaces pipes, automatic and manual valves and other parts • Maintains, adjusts and makes repairs to turbo sprinkler, water and electric controllers • Installs new sprinkler systems, checks out sprinkler systems to see that they are operating properly and takes corrective action • Performs other minor electrical repair work • Drives truck and other light grounds maintenance equipment • Performs miscellaneous groundskeeper and gardener duties as assigned • May train new employees in the performance of grounds and sprinkler repair duties DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience: A combination of training and experience equivalent to two years of grounds maintenance experience including or supplemented by specialized training in sprinkler maintenance and repair. Knowledge of: • Different types of sprinklers • Pumps, flow valves, pressure switches and related equipment • Mechanical aptitude Skills in: • Use of power and hand tools related to sprinkler installation and grounds maintenance Ability to: • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Licenses and Certificates: • A valid California driver’s license
