CLASS TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT

DEFINITION: Under immediate supervision, perform work of routine difficulty in providing general instructional support services in various educational programs; and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• As directed, assists teachers in general supervision of students
• Records attendance
• Administers, scores and records the results of routine tests
• Assembles, distributes, collects and maintains instructional materials
• Assists students in interpreting assignments and following directions
• Assists students in attending to personal needs
• Performs related duties as assigned

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience: A combination of training and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school.

Knowledge of:

• Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and basic arithmetic
• General classroom procedures, practices and equipment
*Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultrual and ethnic backgrounds of students

Skill in:

• Following oral and written directions
• Communicating clearly, both orally and in writing
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others

The position requires ability to work with adults from many countries, cultures and languages. It also requires experience with cultural diversity, ability to follow teachers’ instructions and lesson plans, and excellent communication skills. Good computer skills and bilingual English/Spanish desirable. Other related responsibilities and duties as assigned. SELECTION PROCEDURE: To qualify for this position applicant must have a high school diploma and official transcripts of at least two years of college (48 units) or an AA degree or pass our proficiency exam (will accept CBEST in lieu of).
