 Position: 6th Grade Teacher                        Classification: Certificated             

Report To: Principal/Superintendent                                            

Salary: Teacher’s Contract (Full-Time 183 days)

 DUTIES

  • Provide an educational program for students and assists in other school programs as assigned.
  • Teach reading/language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom and other appropriate learning activities, utilizing course of study adopted by the State Board of Education.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for each pupil.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluate student academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Create an effective and organized environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintain professional competence and/or requirement through participation in staff development activities, which are self selected or provided by the district.
  • Performs basic attendance accounting as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies, and maintain required inventory records.
  • Insure a comfortable room environment.
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with State and District testing programs.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
  • Share in the sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty committees.
  • Plan and coordinate the work for aides.
  • Evaluate teacher aide performance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.  Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Eyesight must be corrected or uncorrected sufficient to read fine print and hearing with or without the use of a hearing aide should be sufficient to hear telephone conversation.  Speech patterns and voice must be understandable.  Must possess the physical stamina to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:     Bachelor’s degree, including all courses needed to meet California credential requirements.

 Credential:     Multiple Subject Credential.
