The primary responsibility of the Superintendent and Middle School and High School Principal is to serve as the educational leader and general administrator of the entire school system.The Superintendent/Principal will establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, parents and community organizations. This person will also manage the policies, procedures and regulations as set forth by the MCS School Board. Our school mission is to develop Christ-Centered leaders through excellence in academics, athletics and the arts. This person must strive to achieve this mission and cultivate the school's vision for spiritual life on our campus.

Job Summary

It is the primary responsibility of the high school Principal to serve as an educational leader and general administrator of the high school. The Principal is responsible for managing the policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure that all students are supervised appropriately in a safe, nurturing environment. The Principal establishes and maintains effective relationships and open communication with students, staff, parents and community organizations; and interprets and implements those requirements and policies as set forth by the Governing Board. The Principal influences the spiritual, emotional, academic and social culture of the school and sets priorities for growth and excellence in all areas. The Principal works collaboratively with staff to enhance instruction and provides appropriate opportunities for all school professional development as well as individual professional development. The Principal and the Governing Board work together to establish the long-term vision of the school and make plans to ensure the mission and vision are being carried out over time.

Achieving academic excellence requires that the school Principal work collaboratively to direct and nurture all members of the school staff. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for scheduling, curriculum development, extracurricular activities, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations, and other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and professional behavior.
  • Provide leadership to the school staff in interpreting and clarifying educational goals and objectives, and stimulating high levels of job performance
  • Manage, evaluate and supervise effective and clear procedures for operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the school including instructional programs, attendance records, extracurricular activities, discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, and emergency procedures. Ensure compliance with all laws, School Board policies, and civil regulations.
  • Establish the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students consistent with the school’s philosophy, mission statement, and instructional goals.
  • Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis, both informally and formally, to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and student growth and development.
  • Assign, supervise and evaluate the teaching staff assigned to the school.
  • Supervise in a fair and consistent manner effective discipline and attendance systems with high standards, consistent with the philosophy, values and mission of the school. Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior and to work collaboratively to create high morale among staff and students. File all required reports regarding violence, vandalism, attendance, and discipline matters.
  • Establish a professional, respectful rapport with students and with staff. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel. Serve as a role model for students, dress professionally, demonstrate the importance and relevance of learning, accept responsibility, and demonstrate pride in the education profession. Encourage and hold all teachers accountable for the same. 
  • Notify the Governing Board and/or board representative, and appropriate personnel and agencies immediately when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or students appearing to be under the influence of controlled substances or alcohol.
  • Keep Governing Board advised of employees not meeting their contractual agreement.
  • Keep the staff informed and seek ideas for the improvement of the school. Conduct meetings, as necessary, for the proper functioning of the school; bi-weekly or monthly meetings for full-time staff.
  • Establish and maintain an effective inventory system for all school supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Establish procedures that create and maintain attractive, organized, functional, healthy, clean, and safe facilities, with proper attention to the visual, acoustic and temperature.
  • Assume responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of students, employees and visitors.
  • Develop clearly understood procedures and provide regular drills for emergencies and disasters.
  • Maintain a master schedule to be posted for all teachers.
  • Establish schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in non-classroom areas (including before and after school).
  • Oversee the study and initiation of appropriate curriculum courses of study, teaching methods and materials.
  • Maintain visibility with students, teachers, parents and the Governing Board.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice as stakeholders, so as to create a cooperative relationship to support the students in the school.
  • Use effective presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents, and the community including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
  • Use excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents and teachers.
  • Complete in a timely fashion all reports and reports as requested by the Governing Board. Communicate with the Board regularly about the needs, successes, and general operation of the school and be available for attendance at Governing Board meetings for timely updates and reports.
  • Implement procedures for maintaining and accounting for all student activity funds and money collected from students.
  • Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
  • Organize and supervise procedures for identifying and addressing special needs of students including health-related concerns, and physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
  • Maintain positive, cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with staff and parents. 
  • Oversee the development of Curriculum Committee and keep the Governing Board apprised.
  • Oversee quarterly student grades.
  • Oversee chapel services and work closely with Campus Pastor to provide the spiritual atmosphere inherent in a Christian school educational environment.
  • Nurture both students and teachers to achieve their greatest potential academically, instructionally, and spiritually. 
  • Work within budgetary guidelines for high school campus as well as help create the budget for the high school and its departments.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision at all school events and attend school events (athletics, concerts, plays, parent meeting, graduation ceremonies, and other school related events).
  • Attend Rotary and other clubs meetings as related to student activities.
  • Attend devotional and prayer meetings.

Bachelor's degree in Education or Similar area; Masters in Education or Administration preferred 5-7 years prior experience as High School Principal and/or Superintendent ACSI Teaching Credential or agreement to obtain at the start of the position Previous Classroom Experience Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment, excellent written and oral communication skills Strong computer skills and experience with Google Docs, Microsoft Products Recommended experience with RenWeb
