Job Summary

Job Summary

The San Diego County Office of Education is seeking individuals to join our team as Camp Counselors at the original 6th Grade Camp, Cuyamaca Outdoor School. The residential outdoor education program, in operation since 1946, is located an hour east of San Diego in the 25,000-acre Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, elevation 4,000 feet. We connect children to science through nature in a weeklong, hands-on outdoor education experience. Our Camp Counselors are outgoing, hard-working, energetic, and have a genuine desire to make a positive difference in children’s lives.

TYPICAL TASKS

  • Leads cabin games, songs, stories, and other team-building activities.
  • Assists in the supervision of 5th and 6th grade students in the cabin and dining hall during outdoor school living activities such as bathroom breaks, shower time, meals, and morning and bedtime routines.
  • Assists in maintaining discipline and safety in cabins.
  • Assists in and supports with the implementation of recreational programs; such as archery, rock climbing, campfire songs and wood and rock craft.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
  • Experience working with children is desirable.
  • Ability to lead songs, play guitar, and lead team building activities is desirable.

Camp Counselors will gain skills in teaching in an outdoor setting, organization and leadership, student management, and program operations. Camp Counselors live on-site from noon Monday through 9:30 a.m. Friday. Meals are provided during program plus on-site housing.

This position requires high energy level, clean living habits and appearance, team-building attitude, and a firm commitment.

Interviews and hiring will occur on an ongoing basis until all six positions are hired. Do not delay application until deadline.

There are no health benefits for this position; sick leave accrual per Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act applies.
