Head-Royce School is searching for a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator to serve as our Assistant Upper School Head. This person will join our Upper School Leadership Team, which includes the Upper School Head, grade-level deans, and school counselor. Reporting to the Upper School Head, this administrative leadership position will be responsible for overseeing key areas of student life and the academic program. The successful candidate will be committed to nurturing a diverse, inclusive community, be a strong communicator, and have prior academic leadership experience in an educational setting. We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience and excellence as classroom teachers, a track record of anti-racist pedagogy, and a deep understanding of adolescents and a genuine fondness for working with this age range. Responsibilities This position has key responsibilities in three areas: Administrative (including close work with faculty and the professional community more broadly), Student Life, and Family Partnership. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the community in line with our mission and strategic plan in those areas. Qualifications
  • Previous school administrative/leadership experience essential, e.g., grade-level dean, grade-level coordinator, department chair.

  • Significant, excellent high-school teaching experience required.

  • A track record of working well with a variety of constituents, including students, faculty, and families.

  • A commitment to best practices in education including work with collaborative team building and innovative educational practices.

  • Demonstrated experience centering equity and inclusion.

  • Demonstrated experience working calmly and efficiently in a busy school, and displaying a courteous and helpful demeanor when working with parents, faculty, administrators, and visitors.

  • At minimum a Bachelors Degree is required, though advanced degrees in Education, Leadership, or an academic discipline are a plus.

  • Ability to provide proof of Covid Vaccination, Livescan and TB clearance.
