Administration AR2411(a) JOB DESCRIPTION - ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, HIGH SCHOOL FUNCTION: Assists the Principal in his/her responsibilities including curriculum development, staff evaluation, pupil discipline, attendance, career guidance, health services, student and program evaluation, security, plant maintenance, athletics, activities and budget. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (Specific responsibilities for an Assistant Principal position are assigned at the discretion of the Principal and will be of the type listed below.) Develops the Master Schedule E. Coordinates the program of curriculum revision and development of a course of study and approves pilot courses. E Supervises certificated and classified personnel. E Coordinates testing program. E Coordinates the staff development program E Directs the in service education of staff and orientation of new personnel E Directs the assignment of student teachers and coordinates activities of instructional aides. E Coordinates the assignment of substitute teachers. E Coordinates the teacher evaluation program. E Monitors the instructional program. E Represents the site at various District meetings E Coordinates the guidance and pupil personnel services for the school. E Keeps and maintains up to date pupil personnel records. E Coordinates pupil accounting with Management Information Services (MIS). E Coordinates the school master calendar of activities and facilities. E Assures proper maintenance of school facility inventory E Coordinates and assigns buses in relationship to school transportation. E Coordinates school purchases, inventories, and receiving functions. E Coordinates the school program of pupil discipline, attendance, athletics, and activities E Is responsible to the Principal for contact with local, county, and other juvenile or police authorities in matters of student behavior E Assists in the selection and distribution of textbooks. Directs and coordinates the school orientation program for new pupils. Assists in maintaining student body and staff handbooks. Assists in the development of the school budget. Serves as the administrative head of the school in the absence of the Principal. E Assures proper maintenance of school plant and grounds. Performs regular classroom teaching as necessary. Performs other related duties. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 1. Credentials:Administrative or Supervision Credential or completion of tier one training. 2. Education:M.A. Degree with coursework for administration. 3. Experience:Three years site experience, 2 of which must be as a classroom teacher, 1 year may be either counseling or Teacher on Assignment. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Personal Qualifications: Ability to meet State standards for physical and mental health. a. Ability to meet local standards for appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for co-workers. b. Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health. c. Ability to organize and present ideas effectively in oral and written form. d. Ability to maintain effective working relations with certificated and classified employees, parents, students and community. e.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. f. Ability to organize work, lead and supervise associates, with allowance for considerable latitude and individual initiative for them to carry out responsibilities. g. Ability to supervise activities in the evenings and weekends if necessary. WORKING CONDITIONS: High School campus, exposure to the elements and extreme heat and moderate cold; exposure to abusive people, and hostile and sometimes combative students.
