Special Education Teacher (Educational Specialist Instruction)

Middle School

Purpose Statement:

Special education teacher will work with students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.

Essential Functions:

• Managing a caseload of approximately 20-30 students with disabilities
• Writing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEP's)
• Conducting standardized assessments for initial and triennial evaluations
• Writing professional reports based on results of academic assessments
• Co-teaching alongside General Education Teachers  
• Teaching small groups of students in the Learning Center
• Providing support for general education teachers and students with IEP's in the general education setting
• Supervising instructional assistants
• Conducting informal progress monitoring assessments
• Facilitating IEP meetings with parents, teachers, and related service providers
• Maintaining an IEP schedule and ensuring that all paperwork and requirements are completed within the mandated legal deadlines
• Modifying curriculum and assessments for/with general education teachers
• Ensuring students are receiving accommodations/modifications and all requirements set forth in his/her IEP
• Implementing and ensuring the fidelity of Behavior Intervention Plans
• Attending whole-school professional development meetings
• Communicating with parents
• upervising all students throughout the school day

Job Requirements:

• Mild/miderate special education CA credential
• Expereince writing IEPs and facilitating IEP meetings

Preferred:

• Autism Authorization
• Experience with SEIS online IEP system ( a plus but not required)
• Experience with ELD and ELLs
• Spanish Language skills a plus

·         Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.

·         Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.

·         Ability to lift and move and carry objects of up to 25 pounds.

·         Ability to see for purposes of reading music, correspondence, documents and printed matter and observing students.

·         Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.

·         Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
