Community Learning Center Schools (CLCS) is hiring a Middle/High School Counselor who is excited to mentor in a diverse community and who celebrates differences in culture, background, learning style and thought process. Our staff love to learn and are motivated by challenge. Our Counselor works collaboratively with administration and teachers to create supports for all of our learners. The candidate will possess the ability to collaborate with colleagues to create inspired learning seminars for our juniors and seniors. Candidates must have PPS credential. ACLC Counselor Job Description

(Note: Other duties may arise in any given year at the discretion of Lead Facilitator)

 Academic Advisement

  • Develops academic plans with learners to meet graduation and college requirements
  • Arranges course schedule with learners annually
  • Handles parent concerns regarding learner’s academic progress, concerns with facilitators, school placement, lack of learner motivation, meeting graduation and college requirements, etc.
  • Attends Parent Asset Meetings as needed
  • Writes monthly Counseling Corner for the Parent Newsletter
  • Works with Lead Facilitator to increase parent involvement
  • Recommends placement in courses (i.e. Community College courses, honors courses, remedial math courses)
  • Evaluates transcripts, monitor credit deficiency, and notify parents about summer school and remediation

Master Scheduling

  • Works with Lead Facilitator to design master schedule
  • Inputs master schedule and all courses into SASI
  • Resolves schedule conflicts prior to opening of school year

Parent Community

Intervention and Support Services

  • Provides individual counseling with learners in crisis
  • Attends weekly Student Study Team meetings as needed
  • Recommends Individual Learning Plans (ILP) for learners with learning challenges
  • Monitors accommodation plans for Section 504 learners
  • Attends all IEP meetings and works closely with resource specialist
  • Attends parent and facilitator conferences to address needs such as learning styles, meeting learning to learn skills, participation in the community, lack of motivation, etc. as needed
  • Recommends alternative school placements as needed

ACLC Course Offerings

·      Coordinates UC approved online programs, college classes, etc., oversees concurrent enrollment process, monitors college class progress, adds completed college classes to transcripts
·      Updates UC course list annually and submits new courses as needed
  • Acts as liaison with the College of Alameda (COA), works with COA on concurrent enrollment for ACLC learners and to offer COA courses at ACLC  
  • Works with learners, parents, and facilitators to create new course offerings at ACLC
  • Trains and supervises learners as Peer Counselors and Conflict Managers
  • Oversees Peer Counselors and Conflict Managers who are working with learners
  • Counsels students and parents on college planning, including admission standards, entrance exams, course selection, financial aid and scholarships.
  • Provides college application workshops to assist with the application process.
  • Directs parent and student college information nights for all grade levels.
  • Integrates career software program, into appropriate 9 -12 classes
Peer Counseling and Conflict Management Program

 

 

College Counseling and Career Development Oversight: Ensures that College Counselor:

Testing Coordinator and Procter

  • Coordinates, and supervises the PSAT, PLAN, Advanced Placement, STAR, CAHSEE, and Competency tests; provide accommodations as necessary
  • Sets time schedules and coordinates with the Lead Facilitator for testing
  • Notifies parents, learners, and facilitators of upcoming tests
  • Orders materials and check shipments
  • Keeps accurate learner records on file
  • Creates and maintains database of internship positions
  • Assists learners in finding and completing internships
  • Contacts learners’ supervisors and
  • Keeps track of required internship forms
  • Acts as a community liaison with local businesses
Internship Coordinator (suggestion to work with CLCS Board member or well-connected community-oriented ACLC parent on this task)

Junior Meetings

  • Conduct meeting with Junior Learners for remediation purposes

Oversight of Grades/Progress Reports/Learner Led Conferences

  • Works with office manager and lead facilitator to set calendar of progress reports and quarterly reports

Coordinates Open Campus Contract (OCC) Program for learners

  • Registers interested learners for Open Campus Contract
  • Monitors learner’s academic progress and OCC Attendance system

Transcripts (may work with Office Manager on tasks below with the understanding that Counselor bears ultimate responsibility for transcript correctness)

  • Creates new learner transcripts for learners who transfer to ACLC
  • Adds non-ACLC courses to transcripts as learners complete them, modifies learner transcripts for ACLC courses as necessary
  • Prints transcripts as necessary
  • Sends Senior final transcripts to colleges
