CLAREMONT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Title:                                       AVID Tutor

 Primary Function:              Tutor middle school students

 Directly Responsible to:  AVID Coordinator and AVID Elective Teachers

 Work Year:                            3 days per week/9 hours a week

 Salary:                                   $14.00/hour – Unrepresented Classified Salary Schedule

 Description of the Position:

             Under the training and direction of the AVID Coordinator and AVID Elective teachers, tutor middle school students in the AVID elective classes, evaluate student binders, and coordinate student assignments with teacher.

 Professional Requirements:

  • High school graduate
  • Current enrollment in a two or four year college program or technical trade school
  • Availability for all three days of tutoring assignment each week

Personal Qualifications:

  • Correct usage of the English language, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills, tact, patience, and courtesy
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Communicate effectively with student, staff, and parents
  • Maintain confidentially and use discretion when working with students
  • Demonstrate ability to be organized

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Tutor students in small groups
  • Knowledge of the writing process, note taking and study strategies, algebra, geometry, the sciences and the ability to assist students in their acquisition of these subject areas and skills
  • Other related duties as assigned
