JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of CalAPS, the instructor is responsible for instruction and training that will prepare the student for entry level employment in Construction. The instructor will be responsible for developing student skills, knowledge and attitudes commensurate to the goals of the program and effectively using materials and equipment to meet goals. The ideal candidate will also be keenly aware of and foster the technical skills students will need to thrive in the Construction Trades industry.

Our techers effectively deliver a superior education built on rigorous requiremtns. Simultaneously, the collaborative and flexible nature of CalAPS curriculums encourage teachers to develop creative lesson plans to personally and thoroughly engage each student in their classrooms. We are committed to ensuring that every student, regardless of background or circumstance, is not only provided with the opportunity to succeed, but empowered with the self-confidence and support networks necessary to transform opportunities into accomplishments

This position will be located at Somerset High school and it will begin Spring 2022. The class schedule is Monday & Wednesday at 4:30- 6:30 p.m and lesson planning time will be included in the contract

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

> Exhibit and uphold CalAPS core values

> Create a culture of learning in your classroom

> Teach construction technology and safety skills and instill entrepreneurial attitudes in students

> Work with industry partners to establish, coordinate and monitor students in regular workplace assignments

> Seek out and apply cutting edge construction resources to the instructional setting

> Create active and visible links to the construction industry in order to produce internships/externships, and jobs for students

> Apply practical knowledge of construction instruction, with the specific purpose of preparing and inserting students into the construction industry

> Engage in data-driven planning and assessment of student learning

> Establish a culture of respect and rapport with the students which supports the students’ emotional safety

> Facilitate rigorous learning by delivering cognitively engaging lessons that incorporate our instructional methodologies

> Engage in critical reflection, constantly revising practice to increase effectiveness

> Participate in a professional community across your school site and the CalAPS network

> Develop partnerships within the community by communicating with families and bringing to bear resources that support student success in college, leadership, and life

QUALIFICATIONS: > A High School Diploma or equivalent required > A valid California Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential with the industry sector: Building Trades and Construction or appropriate industry work experience to qualify for a CTE Credential > You have at least 3 years of construction industry experience > Prior teaching/mentoring experience preferred > Licensed contractor preferred > Teaching experience preferred > You have strong content knowledge, pedagogical understanding, and the capacity to plan and deliver instruction to meet the needs of students > You display a relentless commitment to and high standards for high-quality execution > You are passionate and demonstrate a high level of personal responsibility towards ambitious goals > You have excellent collaborative and organizational skills > You have excellent verbal and written communication skills > You have a strong ethical base and self-awareness > You are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to CalAPS mission and the communities we serve > You will need to pass a TB test and background check and drug test at the time of offer EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of work experience in the technical skills, trade, or vocations to be taught are required. One (1) of the three (3) years of the required experience must be within the last five (5) years, or two (2) years within the last ten (10) years. EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree highly desirable. DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS: >Resume > Possesion of, or ability to obtain a valid Calfornia Designated Career Technical Education Teaching or Vocational Credential for the subject to be taught is required.
