Job Title: School Secretary I
Reports to: Site Administrator

Primary Functions: Under general supervision, perform a variety of general clerical duties in a school office setting help to interpret the school program for the community and provide community feedback to the classroom experience.

Performance Responsibilities
* Operate various types of office machines (typewriter, copier, calculator, computers, etc.)
* Type a variety of materials from oral directions, rough draft copy, or notes 
* Duplicate materials; proofread finished copy
* Sort and file documents and records according to predetermined classification
* Answer telephone
* Responsible for maintainence of computerized student attendance records and reports
* Maintain all student records
* Call parents to verify student absences
* Assist with registration and testing of new students
* Receive, sort and route mail  
* Distribute audio-visual materials
* Administer minor first aid to students
* Attend to needs of teachers, students and the general public, giving information as required
* Assist Secretary II and/or Administrator(s) in all areas as necessary
* Coordinate and maintain school activity and facility use calendar
* Collect and maintain records of monies received
* Perform all other duties as assigned

Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of: English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; modern office methods; computer functions and applications; First Aid and CPR training.

Abilities:
Understand and follow oral and written directions; communicate effectively both in oral and written form; complete assignments independently; perform routine clerical tasks; maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information; handle telephone contact in a pleasing and dignified manner; type at a speed of 40 WPM; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relations with children and adults.

ADA Requirement: Must have the ability to sit, stand, walk, frequently lift objects weighing approximately 10 lbs. (paperwork, files, etc.), push, pull, reach, twist, drag, and grasp objects.

Experience:
One year of clerical experience required. School office experience desired.

Education:
Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade. Must be able to pass standard proficiency test of basic knowledge. May be required to pass skills related test.

Valid California Drivers License required. Adopted 03/13/96

Hire date and training will be estimated for mid-August 2021. Selected candidates will be notified and scheduled for computer skills testing on August 3, and interview on August 4.
